There has been a very disturbing trend lately about truth. It’s not really an old thing, it comes back around every few years.
Murphy Brown is coming back… didn’t watch it the first time, won’t watch it now. Commercial line caught my attention...
Murphy Brown told “her truth”.
This has become an all too frequent phrase… “her truth”, “his truth”…
We’ve come a long way since, “the truth and nothing but the truth.”
<<Blaise Pascal had a great quote… >>
“Truth is so obscure in these times, and falsehood so established, that unless we love the truth, we cannot know it.” Blaise Pacal
No political party has a grasp of truth.
<<What is the truth?>>

What is the truth?

This is the same question that Pilate asked Jesus in John18...
John 18:37–38 ESV
Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” After he had said this, he went back outside to the Jews and told them, “I find no guilt in him.
This is the problem… since “truth” appears elusive, and no one “knows” the truth, we are free to determine what is and is not truth.

Opinion is not truth.

The greatest deception men suffer is their own opinions. -Leonardo da Vinci
Opinion is not a fact.

God is truth.

I know many of you here believe this already…
Students, children, those of you on the fence...
God cannot lie. Hebrews 6:28, Titus 1:2, John 3:33
God is the essence of truth.
<<John MacArthur>>
John MacArthur puts it this way… “Truth is that which is consistent with the mind, will, character, glory, and being of God. Even more to the point: Truth is the self-expression of God.”
It is emphasized by the consistent truth of his words and works.
God is the author, source, standard and final judge of all truth.
Truth is supremely shown in Jesus Christ.
Go back to the text John 18
Jesus said, “I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth.”
What does this mean?
God is the author and source of truth, therefore...
Jesus came to reveal God.
<<John 17:3>> Jesus says God is true.
John 17:3 ESV
And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
Later In John 17, Jesus says that he is one with the Father.
As Jesus is one with the Father then… <<Jesus is truth>>

Jesus is truth

John 14:6, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.”

The Word is truth

Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.” (John 17:17, ESV)
If you have any question as to whether the Bible is trustworthy… Come talk to me.
Fragments of truth video.
<<G Campbell Morgan Quote>> word of God
“There is one sure and infallible guide to truth, and therefore one, and only one, corrective for error, and that is the Word of God.” G. Campbell Morgan

Why is this important?

Why make a big deal about this?
We are living in a day when everything is “truth”. If everything is truth then nothing is truth.
Consider this Blaise Pascal quote again…
<<quote>>
“Truth is so obscure in these times, and falsehood so established, that unless we love the truth, we cannot know it.” Blaise Pacal
I want you to love the truth so much that you can spot the lie every time.
Training and practice. Training and practice. Training and practice.
You will have to pray every day to the God of truth. You will have to hold on to Jesus for dear life. You have to saturate your mind and life with the Word of God.
<<John 8:31-32>>
John 8:31–32 ESV
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
I want you to know the truth because it will set you free from all falsehood.
