ACCORDING TO MANY ACCOUNTS WRITTEN IT IS STATED ON THE WEB THAT “Despite the development in the Land of Israel since the founding of the State of Israel, you can still walk along the shores of the Sea of Galilee and imagine what it was like when Jesus was ministering there.”

“He was almost always followed by throngs of people eager to hear His teaching.

It was along the sea that a very sick woman caught up with Him, desperate to be healed of a chronic ailment.

This miracle story is very well-known to readers of the New Testament.

Yet, there is so much that is "between the lines" which, when understood, will strengthen your relationship with the Lord.

THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY OF THE WOMAN THAT WAS HEALED FROM HER DISEASE THAT SHE SUFFERED FOR 12 YEARS WITH, ACTUALLY BEGINS WITH AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE GARMENTS OF JESUS.

MORE SPECIFICALLY HIS TALLIT (PRAYER SHAWL) AND EVEN MORE SPECIFICALLY THE TZIT-TZITS (THE TASSELS).

“In ancient Israel, men wore four-cornered outer tunics with these tassels, or tzitziyot, TZIT-TZIT tied to the four corners.

This outer garment became known as a tallit, and eventually evolved into the more formal prayer shawl.

But, why tassels?

These tassels were to remind each Jewish man of his responsibility to fulfill God's commandments.

In fact, these tassels are tied into 613 knots to constantly remind them of the 613 laws of Moses, of which there are 365 prohibitions (The "thou shalt not" laws), and 248 affirmations (the "thou shall" laws).

THEY MADE THEIR TASSELS LONGER AND PUT MORE BLUE IN THEM.

Each tassel was to have a blue thread.

With blue so prevalent in our world today, it is hard to imagine that during the entire biblical period, blue was probably the most expensive color to produce.

Therefore, it was reserved for royalty and the wealthy who could afford it.

Before synthetic dyes, the only source was a small gland in the murex snail.

According to the historian B. Caseau, "10,000 shellfish would produce 1 gram of dyestuff, and that would only dye the hem of a garment in a deep colour" (Bagnall, 5673).

These numbers are supported by the quantity of discarded shells which, at Sidon for example, created a mountain 40 metres high.

Such figures also explain why the dye was worth more than its weight in gold.

In a 301 CE price edict from the reign of Roman emperorDiocletian, we learn that one pound of purple dye cost 150,000 denarii or around three pounds of gold (equal to around $19,000  at the time of writing).

A pound of pre-dyed wool would set you back one pound of gold.

This indicates that Lydia, the seller of purple and an early convert of Christianity, was one of the wealthiest women in the Empire ().

In the "shorthand" of the Bible, this tidbit of information about Lydia, which means very little to us today, said a lot to early readers of the text.

It said, in effect, "Hey, one of the wealthiest and most influential people in the Roman Empire has gotten saved!" REFINERSFIRE.ORG

ONE OF THE SITES I CAME UPON IN MY RESEARCH - THE PERSON HAD HIS OWN PERSONAL TALLIT AND HIS FAMILY SIGNATURE KNOT - HIS WAS DYED WITH THIS SNAILS DYE AND HE SAID IT WAS 25 YEARS OLD, IT HAD NOT FADED SINCE THE DAY HE GOT IT.

THE TASSELS CAME TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE PERSONS AUTHORITY.

OUR FIRST ENCOUNTER OF THIS IS SEEN WHEN DAVID HUMILIATED KING SAUL BY CUTTING OFF A CORNER OF HIS ROBE

SAUL KNEW THAT DAVID HAD BEEN ANOINTED TO TAKE OVER THE THRONE, THEN AND THERE HE COULD HAVE TAKEN SAULS AUTHORITY BUT HE CHOSE NOT TO, HE LEFT IT UP TO GOD TO HAVE THE TIMING RIGHT.

SHE HAD NOTHING TO LOSE AT THIS STAGE.

SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN SHUNNED

BUT SHE KNEW ENOUGH THAT THE SCRIPTURES HAD SAID:
