// Introduction

Halloween is a time when many people will decorate themselves and present themselves as something they are not.
This is not the only time in a year that this behavior happens. Many days, we present ourselves in a way that isn’t always true to who we really are.

BIG IDEA

You are fearfully & wonderfully made, inside and out!
------------
Tonight we will be talking about self-image and how we view ourselves vs. how others view us. Check out this video:
Dove True Beauty Sketched VIDEO

1. Masked

Beautyharmonious combination of qualities pleasant to see.

Hiding Our Faults

We all have a list of faults - if I were to ask many of you to tell me 10 things you don’t like about yourself, that list would be easier to come up with than a list of 10 things you like about yourself?
WHY?
Sin Nature is Self-Destructive - by design, sin is made to destroy
John 10:10 ESV
10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
While we think we are covering up and hiding our faults, we are actually doing more damage by not confronting them head on.

Exposing our Faults

When we expose our faults and allow them to be placed before God, He is able to take our ashes and turn them into beauty as tells us.

Desiring Others Masks

We shouldn’t compare our lives to those of others — the only standard in our life should be the Word of God.
It shouldn’t matter to us what some boy or girl thinks about us — what matters is what my Heavenly Father says about me!
We can’t compare our behind the scenes to someone else’s highlight reel
- Steven Furtick
Some people have worked hard for their position, or status, or whatever (you fill in the blank) in life.
Don’t desire what others have if you aren’t willing to work for it like they did!
There’s some people in life that hear form God like you want to hear from God. If you want that, ask them what they are doing. Ask them what disciplines, what boundaries they have set up in their life to allow the Holy Spirit to speak to them in that way.
The world’s beauty is redefined every day.
Recently read an article about Target and how they setup their stores. They said the store used to shift around with the 4 seasons, but now there are 52 micro-seasons in a year (1 every week).
The clothes, makeup, shoes, accessories are going to be old news next week.
To keep up with the world will have you on a never-ending chase for acceptance.

2. True Beauty

True Beauty Lies Within

God looks at you different than anyone on this Earth.
1 Samuel 16:7 ESV
7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
It DOES NOT matter how great you look or appear on the outside to others if you insides are crumbling apart
DIRTY CUP
- Jesus tells the hypocrites that it does them no good to look good on the outside when the inside of their cup (their life) is still dirty
NEED A VOLUNTEER
1. Rub dirt on inside of the cup and ask volunteer if they want to drink it
2. The cup is clean on the outside, why don’t you want to drink it?
3. Pour pitchers of “living water” in the dirty cup and see it get cleaned out. Now will you drink out of it?
The Holy Spirit wants to clean your insides out so you can see yourself how God sees you.

When God Looks At You

God FORMED YOU -
Psalm 139:16–17 ESV
16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. 17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
God put HIS BREATH IN YOUR LUNGS -
God calls you the APPLE OF HIS EYE -
God formed your INWARD PARTS -
Psalm 139:13–18 ESV
13 For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. 17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! 18 If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you.
God made you in HIS IMAGE -

The Image of Christ

Listen to these words as John tried to put to earthly words what Jesus looks like:
Close your eyes, imagine the following...
Revelation 1:13–16 ESV
13 and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest. 14 The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire, 15 his feet were like burnished bronze, refined in a furnace, and his voice was like the roar of many waters. 16 In his right hand he held seven stars, from his mouth came a sharp two-edged sword, and his face was like the sun shining in full strength.
Revelation 1
Do we really know what beauty is?
The beauty that John experienced in this moment caused him to fall over as if he was dead.
I think that when we experience true beauty, we are overwhelmed, we don’t know how to operate.

// Closing Thoughts

WREN GETTING DRESSED
Everyday Wren gets dressed to go to school or go run an errand. As soon as she is dressed, the first person she comes to find is ME.
She wants to know what her Father thinks of her.
The moment I tell her how beautiful and cute she looks, she gets bashful and turns around and runs off joyfully.
When we are out and someone else tells her she is cute or beautiful, she doesn’t have nearly the same reaction. In fact, many times she could careless about what they think about her.
In this same way, we should only care about what our Heavenly Father thinks about us.
Whatever thoughts you have of yourself, God’s thoughts are higher ()
The Prodigal Son
The prodigal son's father embraced him, loved him, put the finest robe and ring on him and threw him a feast.
The previous account of this boy's life was living out of the pig pen - I promise he was not looking beautiful
Some of you here tonight need to REDEFINE what God has called you. You need to stop listening to the voice in your head and start listening to the voice of your Father that says you are...
Chosen
Beautiful
Fearfully & Wonderfully Made
The Apple of His Eye
It is time to become UNMASKED - take off the mask, become the child of God you are. Don’t try to blend with the world.
Set your eyes on Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our Faith () and Faith is believing in what we cannot see.
it’s like fake it till you make it, except its real belief

BIG IDEA

Key Verse
