Intro

We all live with things we probably think we know until someone asks us to explain it. Having kids is like that. They ask where things come from, how they work, why they are like they are.
Why do we call a spoon a spoon?
How does the internet work?
Why do people who think they can fly not start from the ground?
I know you think you understand what you thought I said but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant (Alan Greenspan)
Usually it doesn’t matter if you’re a bit fuzzy on things. As long doctors know medical things and mechanics know mechanical things and pilots know airp[lane things, I’m ok. If somebody asks me one of those random things, I can probably say something that they can’t prove is not true...
But now and then, not knowing can be a problem.
Sometimes people ask me questions...
Trinity, etc.
I often ask, “what made you ask that?” That way...
The problem though is that there are some complex things that we can and do need to understand
Cf. Peter re: Paul—sometimes hard to understand (?)
When we don’t—stay fuzzy—end up in discussion and thoughts / culture—in over our heads.
Peter “be prepared to give defense...”
sometimes bc they need
sometimes you need it...
Book of Hebrews
vv 12-19
Downstream--
Christ not raised
religion empty
God isn’t whoyou thought
Haven’t really ben helped at all
no hope for you or loved ones
*** Need to see how many things implicated in one single octrinal idea (creation, redemption, etc)
*** But he isn’t afraid—setting them up
Here is something critical—the Resurrection is central to the gospel b/c it’s central to salvation
It’s central to why salvation works
other places idea of justification
here, it’s more about phenomenon of resurection
*** It’s the nature we have inerited (now points to that, but not finished)
So e follows up:
1- a refresher in the truth
(how it’s going to happen)
** You are evidence—you already believe—just fuzzy
** In case some think re: me—look at my klife, makes sense that I think not trye?
*** Problem—close to pagan ideas
So now—Cf w/ epicureans
2- Defend against challenge
“some...”—always “some”
answer--
** Nature
flows from origin (42-49
matches destination (50-55
*** Whole thing by design—not haphazard or dusjunct
Cf v. 46—order
2 things remain--
Main theologiucal argument—ther places blood; here, death and resurection
Main practical argument—it’s worth it all
