Worship is sacrifice:

Read from Soul Feast Pg. 57.

When we gather together on Sunday afternoons we need to come with a mindset and a heart of sacrifice.

This means putting away our phones, and escaping the business of our chaotic lives, and creating space for God to speak to us personally.

This doesn’t only happen at church, it can happen at home.

Sacrifice/Offerings

Major ritual expressions of religious life with accompanying rites, such as libations, effusions, and sacred meals.

The ideology expressed in Israel’s ritual complex made its religion unique in the ancient Near East.

The concepts of OT ritual also underlie NT theology with regard to sin and reconciliation to God through the atoning death of Jesus Christ.

We can offer ourselves to God, our thoughts, questions, struggles of life.

Bring it before him.

Jesus sacrificed himself on the cross, in order for all of his people to be brought into a right-relationship/friendship with God the father.

Are you living a sacrificial life to God?

Worship stems from the Heart

Worship is rooted from the heart, not in the sense of our western civilization definition, when we separate the head and heart.

We believe the head is when we think, memorize, and rationalize things.

Whereas the heart is where emotions and feelings are expressed.

The heart in Jewish tradition is the seat and center of the whole person.

Our character, thoughts, feelings, motives, intuition, imagination, is portrayed from the heart.

Jesus tells us in For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander.

20 These are what defile a person.

But to eat with unwashed hands does not defile anyone.”[1]

We are commanded by GOD to worship him alone.

-6“You shall have no other gods before me. 4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

5 You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan!

For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’

Does God have your heart?

If he doesn’t you can’t worship.

When God has our heart, we enter into divine relationship when his spirit and our spirit come together.

We should live a life of praise, thanksgiving, and adoration for what God has done for us, and is doing for us.

Thanking God for all he is an act of worship.

Adoring him above everyone else, is an act of worship, praising him with thoughts and words are an act of worship.

They all stem from the heart.

Worship is practicing the presence of GOD

Worship is a lifestyle, meaning it shouldn’t only happen on Sundays, or at a small group.

When you wake up in the morning, and lie in bed quietly.

Say God I’m yours and I want to hear your voice, and experience your presence today.

Open my eyes, and ears to hear your voice or feel your presence.

1. Taking time to pray silently in the car, bus, or in your room before you start your day.

2. Find time to read your Bible, and ask God to speak to you.

3. Listen for God’s voice during the day.

4. Spend 3-5 minutes in silence with God.

Asking him to examine your heart.

Use this time for reflection, confession,

5. Look for someone who needs encouragement.

A classmate, who sits alone, and ask God to give you courage to go and talk to them.

As followers of Christ we need to learn how to worship God on a daily basis, and throughout the day.

Every morning I wake up, and spend time with God, I’ll listen to music, pray silently about the day for Teanna, Aksel, and Asher.

I’ll read a passage from Scripture, or ask God to speak to me about a certain verse or passage to reflect upon.

When I was in Spokane for a Pastors conference and God spoke told me to read read the passage for a week, asking God to reveal to me what he wanted me to learn from this passage.

God told Joshua in “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it.

For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.[1]”

God is omnipresent, always present, and is working.

We need to open our eyes to see him at work around us.

This is also called God moments, how is God working in you, and around you.

They can be good, and bad!

Are you aware of God’s presence?

When we learn to practice his presence daily, we will see him everywhere we go.

At school, work, in the car, at an event.

Especially at church.

The Jews in order to be in the presence of God, had to do so through the high priest once a year.

God’s people in the O.T. besides a select few like Moses, had direct access to YAWEH.

Until Jesus died on the cross the curtain was torn.

51 And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.

And the earth shook, and the rocks were split.

52 The tombs also were opened.

And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, 53 and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many.

We all have access to God the Father through Jesus his son.

The Jews had to go to the synagogue to worship God, we can worship God at home, school, church.

It’s a personal relationship with him.

Do you have a personal relationship with God?

Or is he an acquaintance?

Worship is coming together (Corporate)

Why do I have to come to church?

Why should I come to church?

What’s the purpose of church?

Church isn’t for me, I believe in God and that’s enough.

I’ve heard these questions and response from many people.

42 And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

43 And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles.

44 And all who believed were together and had all things in common.

45 And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need.

46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people.

And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

In this passage four elements are mentioned.

To learn about God from the teaching and preaching of his Word.

21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

2. To be in Fellowship: Means sharing, when believers come together, we should want to share with someone or a few people how life is going the good and the bad.
