Mission Possible 3

Ill
A priest, a Pentecostal preacher, and a Rabbi, all served as chaplains to the students of Northern Michigan University in Marquette. They would get together two or three times a week for coffee and to talk shop.
One day, someone made the comment that preaching to people isn't really all that hard. A real challenge would be to preach to a bear. One thing led to another and they decided to do an experiment. They would all go out into the woods, find a bear, preach to it, and attempt to convert it.
Seven days later, they're all together to discuss the experience.
Father Flannery, who has his arm in a sling, is on crutches, and has various bandages, goes first. "Well," he says, "I went into the woods to find me a bear. And when I found him I began to read to him from the Catechism. Well, that bear wanted nothing to do with me and began to slap me around. So I quickly grabbed my holy water, sprinkled him and, Holy Mary Mother of God, he became as gentle a lamb. The bishop is coming out next week to give him first communion and confirmation."
Reverend Billy Bob spoke next. He was in a wheelchair, with an arm and both legs in casts, and an IV drip. In his best fire and brimstone oratory he claimed, "WELL brothers, you KNOW that we don't sprinkle! I went out and I FOUND me a bear. And then I began to read to my bear from God's HOLY WORD! But that bear wanted nothing to do with me. So I took HOLD of him and we began to wrestle. We wrestled down one hill, UP another and DOWN another until we came to a creek. So I quick DUNKED him and BAPTIZED his hairy soul. And just like you said, he became as gentle as a lamb. We spent the rest of the day praising Jesus."
They both looked down at the rabbi, who was lying in a hospital bed. He was in a body cast, and traction, with IV's and monitors running in and out of him. He was in bad shape.
The rabbi looks up and says, "Looking back on it, circumcision may not have been the best way to start..."
Intro
Today is part 3 of of our Mission possible series.
So far we covered the Why of evangelism.
I hope everyone realizes it is absolutely necessary to every believer to be actively making disciples
Right?
So today We are getting into the Who and and How?
Now last week I spoke a little on How, and over the next few months we will get deeper into developing the gifts of the Spirit for the purpose of making disciples.
Today I want to get you started so you don’t have to wait months
Acts 1:7–8 NASB95
He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority; but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”
When the Holy Spirit comes upon us we receive Power to be His witnesses
What is a witness?
one who has personal knowledge of something
So who are are we to be witnesses to?
WHO?
Jerusalem Judea and Samaria, and the remotest parts of the earth
Map
Jerusalem - their immediate vacinity
Start with the people you know
it doesn’t have to begin with strangers doing street ministry.
that’s the work of the evangelist
People in your circle of influence
Judea and Samaria
Judea was the southern Kingdom where Jerusalem was located,
Samaria was part of the Northern Kingdom
After the Northern Kingdom of Israel fell to the Assyrians in 720 BC, it was renamed Shomron or Samaria.
The Southern Kingdom of Yehudah (Judah) had a name change, as well.  During the Hellenistic and Roman periods, it was called Judea.
Samaria includes land that was originally a part of the inheritance belonging to the tribes of Manasseh and Ephraim,
and Judea encompasses territory allocated to the tribes of Benjamin and Judah.
When Jesus spoke these words Judah and Samaria did not get along
Even though they were brothers they had been politically separated for many hundreds of years
This is evident in
Jesus Asks a Samaritan woman for a drink of water
John 4:9 NASB95
Therefore the Samaritan woman said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me for a drink since I am a Samaritan woman?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)
John 4:
Jesus then goes on to tell here
John 4:13–14 NASB95
Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”
incidently
John 4:39-
John 4:39–42 NASB95
From that city many of the Samaritans believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all the things that I have done.” So when the Samaritans came to Jesus, they were asking Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days. Many more believed because of His word; and they were saying to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this One is indeed the Savior of the world.”
Although there were many foreigner in Samaria, many were still their extended family
Extend your circle out.
Start reaching the socially unaccepted
maybe even those who believe very different from you.
and even to the remotest part of the earth
Everybody else
short term missions

Pray and Ask God who He has plans for you to witness too
Family Member, Neighbor, coworker, Friend etc
HOW?
1) Pray
Pray for their softened hearts
Prayer to recognize opportunity to share God’s Love
Prayer for words of Knowledge and prophesies
John 4:29 NASB95
“Come, see a man who told me all the things that I have done; this is not the Christ, is it?”
:29
2) Look to create opportunity
How we talk
How was your weekend?
Nothing really happened.
Instead why not say
“I went to Church on Sunday, God really touched me, I could feel His presence and it sure encouraged me. Then the pastor shared on how I could hear God better and it worked, I really heard God speak to me. How was your weekend?
That’s making an opportunity....
Also how we talk about Church.
Hey you want to go to home show on Sunday.
No I can’t. I have to go to Church!
If you Have to go, why would they want to
Instead I get to go to church so.....
The key to effective evangelism is though relationships
start by doing good to them
Romans 2:7 NASB95
to those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life;
People are starving for relationships.
social media is a poor substitute for relationships
how many of your facebook friends would help you in a time of need?

John 4:34–38 NASB95
Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work. “Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest. “Already he who reaps is receiving wages and is gathering fruit for life eternal; so that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. “For in this case the saying is true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ “I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored and you have entered into their labor.”
