who likes to take out the trash
americans produce 4.3lbs of trash a day
could you have character trash that is stinking up your life?
pride
envy
anger
lust
gluttony
greed
slothfulness
trash - not pretty but ugly
sin nature
came from our roots - Adam & Eve
we have disfunction
some of us are living in our own garbage dump
in our own rebellion
Proverbs 15:14 NLT
A wise person is hungry for knowledge, while the fool feeds on trash.
Prov
junk in
junk out
often we are in a place of Denial
blame it on your circumstances/upbringing
think of Adam & Eve being confronted with their sin
what God?
some look at your past and you have resentment and anger
others are acting out in some way
blame it on something else or someone else
when you are in denial you are typically in denial about being in denial
I hope that you come to the point where we recognize that we have trash in our lives and that we can’t change it
then we can look to God to help us experience change because of the exchange that took place through Jesus
paid price for me
my garbage for your grace
my mess for your mercy
THEN God challenges us to get into the will of God’s purpose
we need to learn to take the trash out regularly in our lives
trash pickup is once a week right
how often are you checking your life for trash that needs taken out?
City of Columbus Sanitation Service:
How to determine your trash day:....
What can I place in my trash container?
no yard waste
nothing too large
considered bulk- arrange a bulk pickup
no pesticides, chemicals,
check hazardous waste page
Where do I place my trash container?
One day Jesus talked to a guy in
sees pool with many crippled people laying around it
one may has been crippled for 38 years and is laying there and Jesus goes up to him to talk
asks:
“Do you really want to get healed?”
do you really want to change
Why would He ask that ?
Too many times we build our lives around our disfunction
maybe liked the fact:
never get married
barely survive
lie down by the pool every day
we must realize that we can’t change
God is all about change
we just have to step into His will-purpose & plan
regularly take out trash
Philippians 3:8 NLT
Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ
That’s the beautiful exchange - recycling
1. Tackle each piece of trash one at a time
pick the biggest ONE
pray specific about our trash
not just help me not sin
not just help with anger
about time when you may be angry today
not just with envy
about a situation that may lead you to envy
woman
Bible says: Don’t worry about tomorrow you have enough troubles for today
some of us like to live in a trash dump because we are comfortable there
been there a long time
part of our identity
Every defect has a payoff
pride

social media
lust

Pride, envy, anger, lust, gluttony, greed, slothfulness
think about your life 5 or 10 years from now

lust — marriage — kids
worship other things — get the house lose the kids or faith
1. Tackle each piece of trash one at a time
2. Celebrate wins one at a time
notice the good work that God is doing in you
didn’t flip out on my way to work today
didn’t envy when heard about co-workers vacation
3. Rely on God’s power
Philippians 2:13 NLT
For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
I have some will power to do things
BUT only God can give me the power to overcome this trash
4. Associate with people who will help you and not hinder you
don’t hang with trashy people or those who cause you to be trashy
iron sharpens iron so one man sharpens another
5. Pursue progress and not perfection
Philippians 1:6 NLT
And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
God will see you thru
we will not be perfect
GOD IS PERFECT
and HE will help you with your trash
Our Savior is in the sanitation business
He can recycle our trash
we have to position it correctly in order for it to be picked up...
Jesus will carry it away
