The Valley’s of Life

Everyone one goes through a valley.  As you go through life, there will be hills and there will be valleys.  There will be high times and there will be low times.  There will be times when everything will be great.  Relationships fall into place.  Things at work will be great.  However, the valleys of life are not so enjoyable.  They can be painful, hurtful and very unpleasant.

What is a valley?  A valley is a low point in your life.  It could be relational, emotional, financially, spiritual, Some times it is so low you cant even tell others how low it is.

I have some very good news for you who are in valley of life.  There will be fresh flowing springs of comfort.

Deuteronomy 8:7

“For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills;

I expect to find a spring in the hills and mountains.  But I do not expect to find springs in the valley.  What amazing to me is that there will be springs in the valleys.

But notice that while you are in a valley, God provides springs of refreshing.

As a matter of fact the valley is part of God’s plan for you and me.

God is the God of the hills and He is God of the valleys.  God is available and is at work in your life whether you are on the mountain tops or the low valleys.

Life is made of mountain and valleys.

When you are in a valley you often feel like you’re not in control anymore.

Valleys you will probably meet.

Hebrew definition.

A valley can be discouragement.  A valley can be depression; A valley can be doubt thinking that you will never get through a problem.

VALLEY — a depression in the earth’s surface between ranges of mountains, hills, or other uplands. In the NKJV the word “valley” is the translation of several different Hebrew and Greek words.

A valley could be a discouragement or depression.  Life is moving in a direction you do not want to go.  You will wonder where in the world is God going in my life.

The enemy wants you to think that when you are in the valley of trouble that God is absent.

1 Kings 20:28 Then a man of God came near and spoke to the king of Israel and said, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Because the Arameans have said, “The Lord is a god of the mountains, but He is not a god of the valleys,” therefore I will give all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am the Lord.’ ”

GOD OF THE HILLS AND GOD OF THE VALLEYS.

6 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW.

FIRST - You will not live your entire Christian liFe in the hills or the mountains.  You will not escape all the low points in life.

Hebrews 11:34-38

34 quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight.
35 Women received back their dead by resurrection; and others were tortured, not accepting their release, so that they might obtain a better resurrection;
36 and others experienced mockings and scourgings, yes, also chains and imprisonment.
37 They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were tempted, they were put to death with the sword; they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated
38 (men of whom the world was not worthy), wandering in deserts and mountains and caves and holes in the ground.

You will not always have health and wealth in your life.  There will also be trials by fire, disappointments.  Have you forgotten that Jesus Christ was crucified?  The apostle Paul wrote most of his books while in jail.  Moses was 40 years in the wilderness before God greatly used him.  King David was in hiding for 17 years.

Do you know what David thought would become of his life?  He thought he was going to die at the hand of his enemy Saul.

Life can be that way.

Do you know what a danger when you are in a valley?  In stead of passing through a valley, you believe you own the valley.  You don’t want to own a valley.

1 Peter 4:12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:

Job 5:7 For man is born for trouble, As sparks fly upward.

SECOND - Valleys are like a school designed to teach US and mature us.   Valleys are very important.

James 1:2-4
2 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials,
3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.
4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

1 Peter 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

THIRD - You will not always know why you went through a trial.  Some valley experiences will not be explained why in this life time.  There are some things that do not get answered in this life.

FOURTH -  All your valleys are because you are unspiritual.

FIFTH - All your valleys are NOT clearly addressed in the Bible.

Or what about life support.  The Bible does not say to plug or unplug.

SIXTH - Valley troubles can be removed by strong Bible teaching.

The valleys we Visit

I do not know how long you will be in a valley

A.  The valley of bachor.  The valley of weeping and sorrow

Psalm 84:6

Psalm 84:4   Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah.  5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.   6 Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools.

There are valleys that literally bring you to tears.  It is a valley where tears come a part of your life.  But as you are in the valley of tears, God Word says you can make or convert it into a spring.  transform tragedies into triumphs

You man not be able to change your circumstances, but you can change the way you view your circumstances.

Your problem can either push you down, or you can stand on your problems and push them down.

There are some things in life you can not fix.  When we come to a river, we build a bridge.  When we get hungry and we do not want to cook, we go to a restraint.  But there are some things in life we can not fix.  You can not fix the attitude that is in that other person.

  1. The Valley of Achor.  Where you cause trouble for yourself and others

Josh 7:24-26  This is where you cause trouble for yourself and others.  It is caused by being selfish and greedy.  God had given the command that when the city of Jericho is captured, everything in the city belongs to God.  But Achan decided to take what was God as his.

He stole:

He thought no one would know.

Total judgment.

Do you know how you trouble yourself and others?

Unconfused sin or hidden sin or hidden habits.

I will tell you something.  If we live in unconfused sin,  ultimately we will affect the church.

Do you know what the danger of unconfused is?

The danger of unconfused sin or hidden sin is thinking it will not affect others.

But praise God:

Every time a Christian goes through the Valley of Trouble, there is always a door of hope.  If you want to leave the Valley of Trouble, you must go through the door of hope. You must decide to take action. When you do, you’ll walk out of the Valley of Trouble through the door of hope and back into the wide place of God’s blessing.

Satan will tell you, “No, you’re in the valley and you’ve got to stay there. You can’t get out. It’s a valley with no exit.”

I don’t know how many Christian people I’ve met through the life of my ministry who has been in the valley of trouble for ten or fifteen years. When you finally figure out what got them in there and how easy it would be for them to walk through the door of hope into God’s blessing, you wonder, “Why didn’t somebody tell them?”

No, my friend. Hope grows out of hopelessness. You may feel stuck in the Valley of Trouble, but there is always a door! You must simply decide to go through it.

  1. Valley of Achor.

To avoid judgment – examine yourself.  1 Corinthians 11:28 But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

1 Corinthians 11:29 For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly.

1 Corinthians 11:30 For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep.

1 Corinthians 11:31 But if we judged ourselves rightly, we would not be judged.

Joshua 7:24 Then Joshua and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, the silver, the mantle, the bar of gold, his sons, his daughters, his oxen, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent and all that belonged to him; and they brought them up to the valley of Achor.

Joshua 7:25 Joshua said, “Why have you troubled us? The Lord will trouble you this day.” And all Israel stoned them with stones; and they burned them with fire after they had stoned them with stones.

Joshua 7:26 They raised over him a great heap of stones that stands to this day, and the Lord turned from the fierceness of His anger. Therefore the name of that place has been called the valley of Achor to this day.

Job 28:11 “He dams up the streams from flowing, And what is hidden he brings out to the light.

Psalm 32:5 I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I did not hide; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord”; And You forgave the guilt of my sin.  Selah.

Psalm 69:5 O God, it is You who knows my folly, And my wrongs are not hidden from You.

Mark 4:22 “For nothing is hidden, except to be revealed; nor has anything been secret, but that it would come to light.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Isaiah 65:10 “Sharon will be a pasture land for flocks, And the valley of Achor a resting place for herds, For My people who seek Me.

Hosea 2:15 “Then I will give her her vineyards from there, And the valley of Achor as a door of hope. And she will sing there as in the days of her youth, As in the day when she came up from the land of Egypt.

1 Corinthians 11:32 But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord so that we will not be condemned along with the world.

We want to get ride of that this morning.

  1. Valley of discussion or indecision.

Joel 3:14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision.

The worst time to make a decision is when you are in a valley.

E.  The valley of no spiritual refreshing.

    1.  valley of Beracah  2 CHRON 20

G.  Valley of Dry Bones

Vision of Ezekiel     Ezek. 37:1–14

“MAKE THIS VALLEY FULL OF DITCHES”

H.  The Valley of Eshcol, where the twelve spies sent out by Moses picked a huge cluster of grapes (Num. 13:17, 23)
