John 3:16-21
How much does Jesus love you?
He loves each of us enough to change what’s in us.
That change He wants you to experience cost Him a lot.
The question is do you want the change as much as He wants you to have it?
It is important to know what is in us and that it must be born again.
The signs of the rebirth are where we draw our security.
As Jesus changes us, doing what we were previously unable to do, we gain assurance that He is in us and we are in Him.
The good news of the gospel is that Jesus came to do that great work of love.
In our brokenness, in our sinfulness, we have an advocate in Heaven who wants to restore God’s original design in us.
All that is required of us is to recognize what is in us and repent, change the way we view it and chose to walk away from it.
But we don’t just walk away from sin, we walk toward love in the name of Jesus.
John 3:16-21
God’s love for His creation sent His Son
Jesus came to change our future by changing what is in us.
By believing in Jesus we can have eternal life.
You are so very precious to God
He gave His own son’s life to save yours
Jesus did not come to condemn the world
That work had already been done.
Belief in Jesus takes away that condemnation
When you believe enough to see sin for what it is and begin to ask God to help you get free of it, you will be changed.
You can’t help an addict who doesn’t want help,
The addict has to desire the help.
You are a sin addict and you must desire to be helped before you can be healed.
Until you see your addiction as bad, you will remain enslaved.
Do you want to be healed from the chains of sin?
It is the sin within us that brings the condemnation.
The price for our sin must be paid for.
But the love of the sin must also be removed.
That is a decision we make.
Do you love your sin?
It is our love of the darkness that keeps us from the light
Condemnation is connected to our love of the darkness
It is the love of sin (darkness) that keeps people from the light.
Jesus is the light of the world
You cannot love Jesus and darkness.
You must choose.
Today, and every day following, moment by moment, you must choose.
Jesus came to replace the darkness with light
John 12:46–48 (ESV) — 46 I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.
47 If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.
48 The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day.
Ephesians 5:8–12 (ESV) — 8 for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.
Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), 10 and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord.
11 Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.
12 For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret.
You don’t have to be perfect, but you must love the light rather than the darkness.
Conclusion
If you love Jesus, why do you remain in darkness?
The Father so loved the world that He gave His only Son,
What more do you think He owes you?
What more could He give that He has not already given?
He cannot overlook your sin, your darkness, not if He truly loves you, because it is killing you, killing your relationships, your families.
Stop loving the darkness.
Confess your sins at the altar, ask Him for mercy and receive it.
Jesus loves you enough to change what’s in you!
