Righteous & Just

A Nation In Trouble:  Righteous & Just

Today we come to the end of a journey.  A journey that has shown us more of the true nature of God.  God took an ordinary everyday man and spoke the truth of His Word to His own people who were living in sin and refusing to recognize it or even repent.  They had been warned and even before this had short times of obedience, but overall they turned their back more and more so that God saw nothing but their continued sin.  America better pay attention!  We are doing the same thing and we may be headed for the same result.  God is Holy and will not neglect or ignore our sin-individually or as a nation.

God now shows Amos what will happen.  {STAND} Amos 9:1-15

No One Escapes

Amos 9:1-4

-God was ready to commence His judgment and He starts at altar

   -standing He announces:

-smash the roofs so when they crash even the stone thresholds shake

-the roof will no longer hide their sin of idolatry—will fall on them

-with the sword He will kill those who are not under the roof

   -absolutely no one will escape

     -not fugitive—guilty or refugee--fleeing persecution

v.2-can’t dig a hole to Sheol to escape or ascend to heaven

-can’t go to the highest mountain or the deepest sea to escape

-could even command the serpent—sea creature to bite them

-enemies capturing them & taking them to exile would not stop Him

Psalm 139:7-8—can’t go anywhere away from His presence

Romans 8:38-39—can’t separate ourselves from God’s love

v.4-He set His eyes against them for evil and not for good.

-they could not escape God’s judgment for THEIR sin!

One More Reminder

Amos 9:5-6

-make no mistake this will be accomplished by Almighty God

-there gods will not even create a blunder by God Almighty

-He is the One who can touch the earth and destroy it

-causing all those who live there to mourn—grieve

-the land will obey God and rise and fall just like the Nile

     -uncontrolled by man

-the One who makes His home in the heavens & causes even rain

-The Lord Is His Name—one more reminder—make no mistake

Everything Is Affected

Amos 9:7-10

-there being the chosen people of God didn’t exempt or excuse them

-‘are you not like the sons of Ethiopia to Me?’

-the Cushites were a foreign and unimportant people living at the

periphery of the known world—Sudan & S. Egypt

-He brought them out of Egypt but also their enemies He ruled over

-Philistines from the area of Crete & Arameans from Kir (Mesopt)

   v.8-10—The final announcement of judgment

-eyes of the Lord are on the sinful kingdom—His own

-He will destroy the nation, but not all of it

-He will shake Israel among all other nations like a sieve

-nothing and no one will escape the wrath of God

-ALL sinners of His people will die by sword & righteous prevail

-Especially those who say they will be unaffected—NO SO!

God Will Prevail

Amos 9:11-15

-after the full punishment has been imposed God will restore

-the fallen booth of David will be restored

-the tent uniting both kingdoms will be restored N & S

-just as He promised David (II Samuel 7:11-16)-a Davidic King

-the land will then be so productive that plowman waits on reaper

-treader will be waiting on planter & hills so full they drip of wine

-He will return His people to the ruined cities and they will produce

-they will then not be rooted out of their land again

   -says The Lord your God

God Has the Final Word:

1.  Quit Playing With Sin Pretending It’s OK

2.  Recognize God’s Holiness With Your Life

3.  America Better Pay Attention To God’s Word
