What we Really Want
Introduction: What do you desire?
What do you really long for?
If we were to take a microphone all over this room, we would hear a variety of opinions.
Some desires would overlap with those of others while some may stand out as a bit unique.
Still, we all have yearnings that tend to propel us in pursuit of something we deem as important.
Ironically, those desires often shift depending on our current life stage.
For example, children desire things that are very different from adults.
They love swimming in the lake where as adults get freaked out that there might be some algae in the lake or a mucky bottom instead of sand.
Or worse yet, they saw the movie jaws and think this pond is host to a great white shark.
Kids desire watching the same movie over and over and over again; aka, Frozen!
If I see that movie another time, I am going to grow carrots out of my nose.
If you are an adult in the room, I am confident that you have had your fill of Frozen, or Finding Nemo, or Cars; your desires have shifted to other pursuits.
For teens, longings shift from bicycles to bikes, from animated movies to dramas such as Jurassic Park or Thirteen Days, or a Netflix Original, “This is us,” from childish games such as Toon-town, or Mind-craft to Call of Duty or GTA, that’s Grand Theft Auto for the uninitiated.
Three steps that align our priorities with God’s
1. Jesus exposes our real motive for coming to Him.
John 6:28
2. Jesus redirects our attention to what really matters (vv.
28-34)
3. Jesus provides greater clarity into His identity and mission (vv.
35-40)
