Where do orphans come from?

Many believe orphans are rejected — a selfish, unhealthy soul setting an innocent, beloved kiddo to the curb.
But many orphans, rather than rejected, are relinquished. (An act of love)
Ministry to those who have relinquished — love isn’t love without giving.
John 3:16 NIV
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

And therein we see the relinquishment of God… giving, as an act of love, His own Son.

Which leads us to one of the greatest challenges and blessings of adoption: RECEIVING.

Taylor — a gift to be received...
Ephesians 1:3–10 NIV
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, 9 he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.
1. God Predestined us for adoption
Taylor — a gift to be received...
A source of theological debate...
John 15:16 NIV
16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.
If you think of Osage Hills as an orphanage this morning, God walks in and say: “I’ll take that one and that one and that one and that one...”
2. God receives us because of God’s immeasurable wealth.
The struggle to choose Taylor — we couldn’t afford it.
The magnitude of our sins make us feel like we are too much for God...
Forgiveness and grace lavished on us.
Ephesians 1:7–8 NIV
7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding,
3. God brings unity to His family by uniting us all in Christ.
Ephesians 1:8–10 NIV
8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, 9 he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.
Part of RECEIVING involves your family being altered.
Whether a single or married, when you adopt, part of receiving means the adopted is going to effect your family.
JEWS and GENTILES
Whoever… wherever… whenever… God receives us and others and UNITES us in His family.

When will you receive the Lord and call Him your father?

He has adopted you; now you adopt Him.
2 Peter 2:4–10 NIV
4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment; 5 if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others; 6 if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; 7 and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless 8 (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)—9 if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment. 10 This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the flesh and despise authority. Bold and arrogant, they are not afraid to heap abuse on celestial beings;
