Adapted from 2014 sermon series: I Stand_pt4
Where do you stand?
We’ve wrapped up our series Possessing the Land.
We learned we are to enter - and live - in God’s rest, always holding onto His promises...
[NOW] - between series - How do we see ourselves in this land.
In the midst of a very unique time in our government - news in Senate Committee - you must have chosen a side… right?
In fact, you must have chosen a side in any situation we find ourselves facing, in this world today… right?
So, where do you stand?
() “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.”
First of all, I stand on grace.
() “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.”
[SELAH] - That’s where your disposition begins.
Every opinion should come after grace.
Second, we have to know what purpose he’s given us...
() “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.”
Ambassador - an accredited diplomat sent by a country as its official representative to a foreign country.
(Romans 5:1-2) “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.”
(2 Corinthians 5:20) “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.”
o Ambassador - an accredited diplomat sent by a country as its official representative to a foreign country.
o We stand, in this life, as Christ’s ambassadors!
o How?...

o Jesus told a group at the Festival of Tabernacles:
(John 8:12) “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
o Festival of Tabernacles had agricultural significance (new harvest year)… and also historical significance (wandering in desert for 40 years).

§ Interesting that at this festival which signifies the wandering, He tells them who they can “follow.”
o In Matthew, Jesus tells His disciples…
(Matthew 5:14) “You are the light of the world.

§ In Number, God told Moses to, once in Canaan, establish cities of refuge.
§ These would be places that those who are fleeing the avenger, can find refuge…
§ Later, as Joshua entered, God reminded Joshua to establish these cities.
ü As a refuge.
(Joshua 20:1-3) “Then the Lord said to Joshua: 2 “Tell the Israelites to designate the cities of refuge, as I instructed you through Moses, 3 so that anyone who kills a person accidentally and unintentionally may flee there and find protection from the avenger of blood.

o It is this same refuge, we can seek when we are fleeing our enemy!...
The one after our blood.
