Wisdom; are you listening?
Hearing is not listening is it?
You have to make the effort to listen, to actively listen.
We have started a journey regarding wisdom from the Book of Proverbs and wisdom has been trying to get our attention, and keep our attention.
Proverbs of wisdom has a reason (Pro1:1-7)
To know, give wisdom, instruction, and understanding
To bring about fear of the Lord which is the beginning of knowledge
Proverbs of wisdom has a voice (Pro1:20)
It shouts, it calls, it calls for us to listen
Proverbs of wisdom calls (Pro2)
Calls for us to receive Wise words
Calls for us to seek her, to cry out for her, for the benefits will be protection, preservation, discernment, understanding, deliverance and so that we can be blameless
But wisdom without application is just knowledge, wisdom needs to be received and applied so today we are looking at some “How to’s” when it comes to wisdom.
How to live a long life
As we work our way through Proverbs 3 today you will see some keys of the How to’s and some benefits when we apply, and some instructions for application.
Key: Do not forget, and keep my commandments
May we not only know the teaching, may we learn from them.
We need to know what we believe and why we believe it.
We need to make faith our faith, we need to make it our own, we need to internalize it and personalize it.
The Benefit: Adding quality to your days, and years to your life, as well as peace (Rom10:9-10; Php4:7)
Another benefit, you will have favor with God and man.
Expand on finding favor, why and how
How to follow God’s guidance
Simple, clear instructions with application has some great eternal results.
Key: trust, lean not on your own . . .
, acknowledge Him!
The Benefit: He will direct your path
So the question is now, what does this look like?
and why is it important?
(Jn14:1-6; Mt10:32-34)
This is what does trust, leaning not on your own understanding and acknowledging Him look like when applied.
Here is some scripture to help us
It looks like belief; for without belief there is serious problems
Denial = denial
no confession = the sword of judgment
How to avoid slippery slopes
Wisdom wants to give us tools to avoid slippery slopes or things that can be harmful to us and our walk.
The key: Don’t be wise in your own eyes (Col3:5-10)
Depart from evil
Fear the Lord
When we understand wisdom that can give us long life and gives us some great guidance so we can avoid the slippery slopes.
May we remember that fear of the Lord brings the blessings of the Lord (v.8; healing and refreshment)
How to get your needs met
God wants to bless us, wants to heal us, wants to refresh us.
There are things we can do to help in receiving these blessings.
Key: Honor The Lord with your firstfruits (2Cor9:6-8)
The Benefit: That you may be filled in abundance, and reap bountifully (Eph3:20-21)
He is faithful, and wants to bless us because He is able
He gets all the glory!
And that would even include in dealing with the Lord’s discipline
How to handle the Lord’s discipline
Discipline, correction help lead to maturity don’t they?
So how should we handle discipline?
The Key: Do not reject (despise), do not be weary (loathe) His reproof (correction).
The reason: It is out of love (Heb12:5-6)
What do you see as the benefit?
To refine us, to help us grow
How to recognize benefits of wisdom
Here is the real application section of our scripture tonight and the benefits too.
Now this one I’m going to do just a little different.
The effect of recognizing the benefits - you are blessed
The value of recognizing the benefits - will bring pleasantness and peace
So, be sure you take possession (Jn3:36)
The Benefits: - helps us in our walk, gives us safety
But still we have more scripture to cover in this Proverb that is wise for application.

The short answer here is, access, use your riches by doing, by applying.
The command: Do not withhold good

When in your power to help, help!

The Command (Rom12:16-18)
