What’s in a name
There is a name that brings more controversy than any other.
It is a name above all names.
It is a name of power.
It is a name that brings salvation to those who call upon it.
That name is Jesus!
Don’t let me mislead you, it’s not just the name Jesus that causes such turmoil.
There are many with the name Jesus.
In the Greek we receive the name Jesus and it is defined as “savior” while in the Hebrew this name is known as Joshua or Jeshua.
What makes this name so special is the adjectives used to describe this name.
Jesus “Christ”, Jesus “the Messiah”, Jesus “the son of God” etc…
IT’S A CONTROVERSIAL NAME
In this world today, you can pray to or worship God, Allah, Buddha, etc.…
You could even pray to or worship satan.
All these are socially accepted but there is one name that will cause people to get all bent out of shape and that is the name of Jesus.
Christ warns us in Matthew chapter 10 verse 22 that we will be hated by all men because of his name sake.
Also in John chapter 15; Christ speaking again warns us that we will be persecuted because of his name.
IT’S A NAME ABOVE ALL NAMES
In Philippians chapter 2 verse 9 we are told that God has given his son Jesus a name that is above every other name.
IT’S A POWERFUL NAME
In the book of Acts we read a story of the Apostle Paul casting a demon out of a young girl.
This young lady or damsel followed Paul and his party antagonizing them till Paul finally had enough and he turned to the Damsel and commanded the spirit to leave her in the NAME of Jesus.
The name of Jesus is so powerful “that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
()
IT’S A SAVING NAME
According to God’s Holy Word it is in that name that man is saved.
"Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."
Have you called upon the name of Jesus?
Have you received the salvation found in His name? says that “whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved”.
