The mission of the Savior (John 3:17-18)

Thesis- God sent Christ for the purpose of salvation from sin.
“God so loved the world that his only Son, that whosoever believes in him should not parish but have eternal life.”
This is one of, if not the most, common verses in the Christian vernacular and one of the sweetest verses to hear as a Christian.
To think that the one that possesses everything, loves the ones that betray him.
The ones that sleep while Jesus prays until he bleeds in the Garden of Gethesme.
The ones that deny him even though Christ gave everything for Them.
The ones that know the Truth but fail to follow it in their daily lives.
God loves his creation greatly and choose to show that love when he sent Jesus to die for our sins.
As I preached in a few weeks ago, we know there is nothing we can do to earn salvation.
It is through Christ alone.
In God Sending Jesus Christ to die for our sins, we are given an opportunity for salvation, which is the first aspect of the great scriptures we will address tonight.
We have this opportunity for salvation through Christ alone.
Through him is the only way one may be saved.
In the account of the young rich ruler he posed the question “How can one earn eternal life?” and the answer is simply “Be perfect”.
If any one here tonight has the slightest amount of truthfulness in them they realize they are not perfect.
Because we are not perfect, because we are fallen, sinful beings we are condemned to Hell.
The only hope we have is if God sends a messiah, which he has.
God has shown the most brilliant and meaningful act of love in the history of the universe and he did this not because we deserve it, but because he is love.
We see this written in another book of John’s, “So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us.
God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”as it states directly that “God is love”.
Although he is righteous, just, and holy, God he still is love.
With this characteristic, he showed the greatest act of love be sending his son to die for the unrighteous and unworthy.

The terminology sounds like I am talking about a superhero movie, but this is far greater than what any Hollywood director or writer could imagine.
If a Hollywood superhero fails at his mission the people die and the story is over and even if he saves them it is only temporary because they’ll probably want to make a sequel in which the people’s lives will be in danger once more.
Even if they were saved for good death would find them eventually and they would find that there life was a small amount of time compared to eternity.
The salvation that is in Jesus is eternal, forever and will not be undone.
Jesus’ mission is to save the world and give humanity an opportunity for salvation and a relationship with God.
Jesus’ mission is for everyone.
Anyone who believes in him will be saved but, those who do not are condemned.

There will be some who will decide that they would rather live there life how they want to.
Some will say that there is not enough evidence to convince them that there is a God.
Some will reject the truth because is does not agree with their world view.
Some will hear the word and know it is true but, decide not to follow it much like the rich young ruler in .
The reality is that there is no middle ground.
One either comes into the light in which they see the goodness, holiness, righteousness, of God and come to the realization that they have no hope without him or they hide from it and don’t come to terms with there sinfulness.
There is the analogy that God, and the truth is like light and like light the truth of Christ makes blurry things clear.
There are many hunters here.
Think about those early mornings and the sun is just beginning to rise.
There is a blueish darkness around.
You can see but no very well.
You look out and you see this massive buck.
Your heart begins to race and you grab your gun or bow but before you put your sights on it you realize it’s not moving.
The sun continues to rise and the light shines on the “buck” you saw and it unveils the reality and it is merely a bush.
