Me: Wouldn’t try didn’t think I’d succeed: Sports, Apply job, Ask girl

Tragedy—how often our insecurities keep us from following dreams.
Don’t interview for the job, Don’t go back to school, Don’t lead a LG.
Don’t ask her out. Don’t even try to get in shape.
WE DON’T NEED SELF-CONFIDENCE.
WE SHOULD CULTIVATE GOD CONFIDENCE.
1 Corinthians 10:12 The Message
Don’t be so naive and self-confident. You’re not exempt. You could fall flat on your face as easily as anyone else. Forget about self-confidence; it’s useless. Cultivate God-confidence.
Why I’m not focused on self-confidence!
· My heart is deceitful
· My flesh is weak
· My behavior is inconsistent
My heart is confident in you, O God; my heart is confident. No wonder I can sing your praises! NLT
Psalm 57:7 NLT
My heart is confident in you, O God; my heart is confident. No wonder I can sing your praises!
BACKGROUND:
Isaiah the prophet lived during the time of one of Judah’s greatest kings: Hezekiah.
He was given visions of Israel’s greatest tragedies and greatest triumphs and almost everything in between.
Of all the writing prophets in Israel’s history, Isaiah saw the future geography of Israel from his days, to the days of the Messiah to the days of Kingdom of God on earth when swords or beaten to plowshares and all the earth is renewed.
Isaiah also saw Israel’s lowest moments in history. IN the paragraph just before the one we are going to study it says of Israel
Isaiah 42:18–19 TLV
Hear, you deaf! Look, you blind, so you may see. Who is blind, but My Servant? Or deaf as My Messenger that I send? Who is so blind as the one in covenant with Me, blind as Adonai’s Servant?
Isaiah 42:18 TLV
Hear, you deaf! Look, you blind, so you may see.
Isaiah issues a declaration of guilt on Israel. A declaration of spiritual dullness and apathy. Everyone knows what follows a declaration of guilt such as that in 42:18–25. They know it from community life and they know it from the way the prophets apply the image to Israel’s life with God. After the declaration of guilt comes the sentencing. Insides tremble as ears wait for the thunderous “therefore” (see, e.g., 1:24; 5:13, 14, 24, 25).
Israel needed hope following destruction and exile after God abandoned Zion as a result of Israel’s sins (1:7–8).
It never arrives. The logic of grace takes over, and the declaration of failure instead introduces a “fear not” oracle, the kind of commitment given to a king under pressure rather than the kind of declaration made to a criminal about punishment.
Isaiah lays out for Israel and for us condemnation but confidence from God.
MY GOD ALWAYS IS FOR ME ()
MY GOD ALWAYS IS FOR ME ()
Isaiah 43:1 TLV
But now, thus says Adonai— the One who created you, O Jacob, the One who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you, I have called you by name, you are Mine.
You are an original masterpiece (bara & yatzar).
God is Out to Get You Personally (Point out the Personal Pronouns & Redeem as a metaphor laying claim to something)
The bad sense of “God is Out to Get Me”
The good sense of “God is out to get Me”

The have confidence that will be there.
Application: What matters most about you is not what you deserve but whose you are.
Just before this, Isaiah issued a harsh declaration of guilt. They deserved punishment but instead they got grace.
Just before you came in here today maybe you did something that was not a mistake but a sin but instead you have got God’s grace. He has got all the tools necessary to rescue you, to redeem you.
You may find yourself in debt today, God can rescue you financially.
You may find yourself in relationship trouble today, God can rescue you.
You may have failed in a business, God can start that new business.
MY GOD ALWAYS HELPS ME ( )
Isaiah 43:2–3 TLV
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, or through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, nor will the flame burn you. For I am Adonai your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I have given Egypt as your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in your place.
Isaiah 43:2 TLV
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, or through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, nor will the flame burn you.
Isaiah 43:2–4 TLV
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, or through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, nor will the flame burn you. For I am Adonai your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I have given Egypt as your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in your place. Since you are precious in My eyes, honored, because I love you, I will give a man in exchange for you, and other peoples for your life.
He Helps You Through The Storm
It will not be easy to get back to the promise land.
They will have to cross waters and rivers
They will have to cross through war zones

Isaiah 43:3–4 TLV
For I am Adonai your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. I have given Egypt as your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in your place. Since you are precious in My eyes, honored, because I love you, I will give a man in exchange for you, and other peoples for your life.
He Pays a High Price To Help You because of His Love
God gave a “ransom” for Israel. He exchanged Egypt, Ethiopia, and Seba for Israel and offered “the price of peoples” for her life. The theological thought expressed turns on the high cost required for Israel’s deliverance and the value of Israel in God’s sight.
Notice How God Speaks to Israel
Precious - a rare gem.
Honored - he brags on Israel
Loved - he gives his affections
Preferable - gives other things up for this one thing
2 Corinthians 5:20–21 TLV
We are therefore ambassadors for Messiah, as though God were making His appeal through us. We beg you on behalf of Messiah, be reconciled to God. He made the One who knew no sin to become a sin offering on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.
2 Corinthians 5:21 TLV
He made the One who knew no sin to become a sin offering on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.
