What Kind of Christian are you?
We’ve looked at Jesus and what he represents
we’ve looked at Philip
we’ve looked at Andrew
So today we are going to look at the Lad.
So lets get started and see what kind of Christian he might represent.
Andrew is the disciple who brings the lad to the story.
First thing to note is that we don’t know the name of the lad.
John was not concerned about the name of the lad he was more concerned with the attitude of the disciples and their response to the masters request.
Andrew had found the lad with the five loaves and two small fishes we can only assume that the boy going out for the day to listen to Jesus had asked his mother or he had prepared a little packed lunch for himself to eat.
i think its quite interesting to note that the lad hadn’t eaten his lunch
i remember that whenever i went on a picnic as a lad as soon as i had cot to the place where we where going i wanted to eat, or if it was on a coach as soon as i was on it i wanted to eat.
Remember that these people had heard him preach over the other side of Galilee and then they followed him.
Jesus must have been a very interesting preacher to both capture the interest of the adults and the lad and a lad who may have been hungry.
Out of the whole assembly of people of 5000 men it was going to be a child that was going to be the one that Jesus would use to feed the great multitude.
There is very little that we know about the lad
no name
no age
no family connections
nothing only that he had five loaves and two fishes.
and he was willing to let the master have them
Staple food for people who lived around the sea of Galilee.
Bread and fish.
five barley loaves.
Barley was the first of the crops harvested in march or April and this was the grain used by the poor to make bread and was also fed to the horses as food.
five indicates to us
The number 5 symbolises God's grace, goodness and favour toward humans and is mentioned 318 times in Scripture.
Five is the number of grace, and multiplied by itself, which is 25, is 'grace upon grace' (John 1:16).
The Ten Commandments contains two sets of 5 commandments.
The first five commandments are related to our treatment and relationship with God, and the last five concern our relationship with others humans.
SO often i say that things are not put in the bible by chance there there for a reason.
Grace is unmerited favour or unexpected favour of God.
But what about the fish in keeping with the fact that this lad proberly came from a poor family the fish would have been preserved fish and not fresh
Fresh Fish would be very expensive even if you lived by the sea.
salted, dry or picked fish would have been the way of preserving the fish.
The number 2 conveys the meaning of a union, division or the verification of facts by witnesses.
A man and woman, though two in number, are made one in marriage (Genesis 2:23 - 24).
There is also the union between Christ and the church (see 1Corinthians 12).
The testimony of God is divided into Old and New Testaments.
His agreements with mankind are divided into Old and New Covenants.
And, though two in number, God the Father and God the Son (Jesus Christ) compose a single Godhead.
every thing would point to this lad being from a poor household.
So when Andrew brought the lad to Jesus His response again to Jesus was
Andrews comment went nowhere to surgest what was about to happen.
His lack of faith his almost lack of intrerst in the small lunch was going to be a lesson for every one to see.
The event was i believe and actual event and not just a story as two much information is given to the time of year.
The feast of the passover was nigh and barley was one of the grains used to make unleaven bread.
Here was a lad who was poor the least expected to share with others or so you might think.
Its often those who for various reason shouldn’t do are the ones who would.
JesusTook the offering for this is what it was an offering from the lad tho the son of God
He had nothing else to bring this is all he had but he was willing to offer it to Jesus.
Jesus had the disciples get the men to sit down.
In most home when people are asked to sit down then the meal is on the way.

You might ask the question when did the miracle of the feeding of the 5000 begin.
was it when the lad was found
was it when the offering was given
was it when Jesus prayed
was it when he break the bread
or was it when the disciples handed out the offering.
I would like to think that the miracle began when the lad offered his lunch.
The lad was willing to offer his lunch so that the master could do something with it.
He didn’t have any idea of what Jesus would do with his gift.
Here we see a lad who was willing to give his all to the master.
Jesus was willing to accept the offering no matter how lowley it was and to use it.
When the bread and fish was distributed by his disciple to the peopleevery one there would know just what kind of person gave this gift.
They wern’t from rich dicent but of lowley and each person as they ate whould be reminded that anyones gift could have been used.
But what kind of Christian would this lad be
He would be the one who although seemingly having not much to offer would give all so that the master can use them
Offering ourselves to God we can be used by him
God taking us up can be used to bring blessing to many
Can you see yourself in this lad or would you like to be one that will offer unto God that little that you have so that others might be blessed.
