In the midst of this timeline,
we find this verse.
Daniel 8:14 ESV
And he said to me, “For 2,300 evenings and mornings. Then the sanctuary shall be restored to its rightful state.”
After Daniel has
vision in chapter 8
trying to understand
Daniel 8:15–17 ESV
When I, Daniel, had seen the vision, I sought to understand it. And behold, there stood before me one having the appearance of a man. And I heard a man’s voice between the banks of the Ulai, and it called, “Gabriel, make this man understand the vision.” So he came near where I stood. And when he came, I was frightened and fell on my face. But he said to me, “Understand, O son of man, that the vision is for the time of the end.”
Gabriel tells him the
exact meaning of the
dream
But when he gets to the
interpretation of the
2300 days.
Daniel 8:26–27 ESV
The vision of the evenings and the mornings that has been told is true, but seal up the vision, for it refers to many days from now.” And I, Daniel, was overcome and lay sick for some days. Then I rose and went about the king’s business, but I was appalled by the vision and did not understand it.
He does not explain the meaning
He just says,
seal this part up.
It does not pertain to you
it is for many days in the future.
As you can imagine,
Daniel really wants to know
the one part
the angel did not explain.
He finishes the chapter by saying
he didn’t understand the vision.
and it bother him so much
it made him sick.
He did understand
most of the vision.
the angel told him.
Even named specific details.
named the nation of Greece
Named Medo-Persia.
Just did not tell him
the meaning of the one part
2300 days.
Chapter 9 starts with
Daniel praying
for grace and
understanding.
His prayer is again
answered by Gabriel.
Daniel 9:20–23 ESV
While I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my plea before the Lord my God for the holy hill of my God, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the first, came to me in swift flight at the time of the evening sacrifice. He made me understand, speaking with me and saying, “O Daniel, I have now come out to give you insight and understanding. At the beginning of your pleas for mercy a word went out, and I have come to tell it to you, for you are greatly loved. Therefore consider the word and understand the vision.
He clearly tells him,
I’m going to explain the vision.
What is he going to explain.
the only part he left
unexplained before.
As the chapter continues
in order to explain
the rest of chapter 8 vision
God gives him a
new vision!
Chapter 9 vision
helps explain vision of
chapter 8.
Daniel knows that God
is giving a time prophecy
2300 days.
The conclusion of the time
will result in the
cleansing of the Sanctuary.
But he does not know
when the prophecy will
start or end.
In chapter 9 ,
he gives the start date.
In the new vision,
He gives 7 weeks
(or 490 days)
time period.
He also says that this time
period is cut off
In other words
the 490 are cut off from
the larger 2300 days.
Gabriel then gives the start date.
Daniel 9:25 ESV
Know therefore and understand that from the going out of the word to restore and build Jerusalem to the coming of an anointed one, a prince, there shall be seven weeks. Then for sixty-two weeks it shall be built again with squares and moat, but in a troubled time.
When the word is give,
to restore the
Jewish Sanctuary
then the time begins.
Both the 490 and 2300 start
at this time
because the 490 is
cut off as
the first part
of the 2300.
Now that we know that start
it is a simple math
calculation to find
the end and
the cleansing of the
sanctuary.
We just have to add one
detail to understand.
Each day actually
equals one year.
Numbers 14:34 ESV
According to the number of the days in which you spied out the land, forty days, a year for each day, you shall bear your iniquity forty years, and you shall know my displeasure.’
Ezekiel 4:6 ESV
And when you have completed these, you shall lie down a second time, but on your right side, and bear the punishment of the house of Judah. Forty days I assign you, a day for each year.
So the total is not
2300 days but
2300 years!
We have also been
given the start date.
“The command to go and restore the Jewish Temple”
But when did that happen?
According to Ezra 7
it happend in the
7th year of king Artaxerxes
Historians say that year
= 457 BC.
Now we just do simple math.
457 BC + 2300 years
(add 1 year because no 0)
= 1844!!
According to the Bible
the cleansing of the
sanctuary would
happen in 1844...
But what does that
actually mean?
This is where
Miller goes wrong.
Miller assumed that
the cleansing of the
sanctuary was the
second coming.
He had heard it said
Jesus will cleanse the
earth with fire when
he comes back again.
So he simply assumed
this was a reference to
the second coming.
Imagine Millers surprise
to believe that in
only about 10 years
Jesus would return.
I have to tell people.
And that he did.
A huge movement of
people from every
denomination
came together
started teaching
second coming.
You can also imagine
how terribly disappointed
they were when Jesus
did not come
at the appointed time.

Ascension Rock

Ascension rock.
Many did not harvest
They were very disappointed
many gave up the faith.
Milliliters laughed at.
Became huge
historical fraud.
But a few went back
to the Bible.
They tried to understand
where they had gone
wrong in their
Bible study.
Finally, a small group
of people found the mistake
The dates and times were right
The problem was in
the event
not the time.
They believed that Jesus
would return in 1844
But it was not that
it was the beginning
of the judgement.
They studied their Bible
“where does the Bible
talk about the cleansing
of the sanctuary?”
Where?
Lev 16 is the place.

Disciples

What is that about?
Day atonement
representing judgment.
Therefore the 2300 days
talked about the beginning
of the Judgment
not the 2nd coming.
That little group of people
who went back and
studies this out
are the people
that eventually
founders of
SDA church.
Now this might seem
a little suspicious.
It might be hard to
believe.
We teach that God
inspired Millerite movement.
But they were wrong!
(a fraud??)
How could God inspire error?
What if I could show you
a place in scripture
that actually
predicted this failure?
and development
of SDA church???
But before we study
that prophecy,
let me give you
one other line
of reasoning.
What about the disciples.
didn’t they do
the same thing?

Disciples

They misunderstood Jesus’
first coming.
They thought Jesus
would become King.
Jesus tried to explain
the truth to them.
but they were not
listening well.
Were the 12 disciples
truly the people of God?
Yes or No?
But they were teaching error!
Furthermore,
when what they were
teaching did not come
true they were
bitterly disappointed.
If they were genuinely
God’s people,
why would God
allow them to
teach error and
be disappointed?
God knows the future
could it have been
all part of God’s plan
from the beginning?
Now,
with this thought
in your mind
let’s turn to
Rev 10.
We will see a prophecy
explaining that the
“fraud” of the Millerite
movement was
actually God’s plan.
Revelation 10:1–7 ESV
Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven, wrapped in a cloud, with a rainbow over his head, and his face was like the sun, and his legs like pillars of fire. He had a little scroll open in his hand. And he set his right foot on the sea, and his left foot on the land, and called out with a loud voice, like a lion roaring. When he called out, the seven thunders sounded. And when the seven thunders had sounded, I was about to write, but I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Seal up what the seven thunders have said, and do not write it down.” And the angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven and swore by him who lives forever and ever, who created heaven and what is in it, the earth and what is in it, and the sea and what is in it, that there would be no more delay, but that in the days of the trumpet call to be sounded by the seventh angel, the mystery of God would be fulfilled, just as he announced to his servants the prophets.
Let’s summarize so far:
Mighty angel
holding a scroll.
Mentions
no more delay.
Connected to
mystery of the
time of 7th trumpet.
What is 7th trumpet?
second coming.
What delay?
God talks about a time
of tarrying.
Matthew 25:5 ESV
As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept.
The delay is
why isn’t the Bridegroom
here yet?
We thought he would
be here by now...
Go back to Rev 10.
Revelation 10:8–10 ESV
Then the voice that I had heard from heaven spoke to me again, saying, “Go, take the scroll that is open in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land.” So I went to the angel and told him to give me the little scroll. And he said to me, “Take and eat it; it will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be sweet as honey.” And I took the little scroll from the hand of the angel and ate it. It was sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it my stomach was made bitter.
What happens now?
John is given scroll
he eats it.
At first,
tastes sweet
but becomes bitter.
We must understand
a few symbols.
First, what
is the little scroll?
Revelation 10:2 ESV
He had a little scroll open in his hand. And he set his right foot on the sea, and his left foot on the land,
Notice,
not just scroll but
it is a little scroll.
In the NT,
scrolls were paper.
Anything written
could be on
a scroll.
But if you study the OT
when someone refers
to a scroll
it is usually a
scroll of a
Bible book.
This is not any scroll
it is a little one.
Could this mean a little
book of the OT?
Notice too,
the scroll is open.
This is in contrast
to chapter 5:1.
Revelation 5:1 ESV
Then I saw in the right hand of him who was seated on the throne a scroll written within and on the back, sealed with seven seals.
Here the scroll
is sealed.
In chapter 10
it is open.
Now, if something
has been opened,
that means it was
once sealed...
Now, are there
any little books of the
OT that were
supposed to be sealed?
Daniel 12:4 ESV
But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book, until the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”
The only little book
of the OT
that was supposed to
be sealed is DANIEL!
Was there any particular aspect
of the book of Daniel that
was said to be sealed
until the end?
Daniel 8:26 ESV
The vision of the evenings and the mornings that has been told is true, but seal up the vision, for it refers to many days from now.”
Yes!
The part that was supposed
to be sealed
until the end
is the prophecy
of the 2300 days.
So,
according to the vision
of Rev 10.
John,
(symbolizing God’s people)
eats the
little opened book.
This explains
God’s people
toward the end
of the world history
opening and
understanding
the 2300 days.
God’s people did indeed
study the the little
book of Daniel.
They did study and teach
the 2300 day prophecy.
They told everyone
Jesus is coming soon.
Everyone got so excited.
It was sweet in the mouth.
But in the end,
they were bitterly
disappointed.
It was bitter
in the stomach.
It is amazing,
that God actually prophesied
that his people
would study Daniel
the 2300 days
get excited
and bitter.
God predicted
the “great disappointment.”
You may ask
why didn’t he prevent it?
But you could ask,
why didn’t he prevent
the disappointment
of the disciples?
Because in both cases,
God was leading
FROM DISAPPOINTMENT
TO APPOINTMENT!!!
Maybe something similar
has happened in your life.
Maybe God has let you
through trials and tribulation.
Hold on tight,
don’t give up.
God might just be leading.
From disappointment to appointment!!!
