(NKJV)

John 4:21–24 NKJV
Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

John‬ ‭4‬:‭21-24 (NKJV)

Johan‬ ‭4‬:‭21-24

Prayer

Most gracious Heavenly father, I thank you for your many blessings. I thank you for your word. Father I thank you for your Son Jesus Christ. Father anything that is within me that is not of you, father I pray that you take it from me now. Father I don’t take it lightly that you have chosen me to use as your vessel at this appointed time. Lord God may your people be strengthened by this message and may you receive all the glory. Let your people hear all of you and none of me. Hide me behind your cross Lord. Have your way now in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

Introduction

Worship is central to our faith in Christ. The implications for the true disciple are all-encompassing, for worship is more than an event on Sunday morning—it becomes a life-style.
True worship will spill over into the week—informing choices, determining perspectives, offering a cup of cold water to the thirsty, loving the unlovely, practicing fidelity, and a cluster of other wholesome actions and attitudes.
These attributes may, in fact, run counter to our culture. For the Christian who pursues the worship of a holy God will pursue a holy life-style as a natural by-product.
There are many activities we do in this life as Christians that we won’t do in heaven. We will never evangelize anyone in heaven. We will never share the gospel or hand out a tract. We will not pray for someone's needs in heaven—there will be no reason to.
However, there is one activity we that we do on Earth that we will continue to do in heaven: worship. We will worship God forever.
We can look at our worship in this life as practice. Today I will be speaking briefly from the topic "Practicing for an Eternity"!

Points of Application

Why we worship
We are commanded to worship.
A. We are commanded to worship.
We are commanded in Scripture to worship our God.
1. We are commanded in Scripture to worship our God.
2. There is no optional clause available in which the command may be modified.

All of these creatures worship God by being themselves but God gave us free will.

We must choose to worship Him!
➤ We must choose to worship Him!
The English word “worship” means “to ascribe worth to something.”
God's love is worth our worship.
Jesus' death, burial and resurrection is worth our worship.
We worship God for who He is and because He is worthy.
Have we applied the appropriate "worth" to God?
(NKJV)
Revelation 4:8 NKJV
The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!”
We should be like the four creatures in this text day and night crying “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!”
We worship God not only for His character, but also for His conduct.

B. The English word “worship” means “to ascribe worth to something.”
Not only for His attributes, but also for His actions.
1. God's love is worth our worship.
(NKJV)
Revelation 4:11 NKJV
“You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.”
By God's will we are all here today!
God's action in our creation makes Him worthy of our praise.
Some of us could have been an abortion!
➤ Some of us could have been an abortion!
Some of us could have been in prison!
Some of us could have been hanging from the hangman's noose.
Some of should have contracted HIV with all the unprotected sex we've had.
2. Jesus' death, burial and resurrection is worth our worship.
Mankind exist today only by the will of God.
3. We worship God for who He is and because He is worthy.
And then we have the audacity to come into the house of God and not recognize or acknowledge just how worthy of our praise He really is!
God is worthy of worship because He did what no one else could ever do: He created all things, and He continues to sustain them.
God provides for all of His creations!
Wildflowers grow in the middle of a field far away from human intervention.
God waters them with His rain and pollinates them with using His bees.
He supplies their need.
(NKJV)
Revelation 5:9 NKJV
And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation,
He redeemed us through His Son, Jesus Christ.
For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood"!
He could left us sinking deeper and deeper in sin.
He could have said to Hell with all of us!
But He loved so much that He sent His son Jesus Christ to shed His precious blood for you and for me!
That’s what God did for us, and He deserves never-ending praise and worship because of it.
Holy! Holy! Holy!
I need two or three radical people who are not afraid to open there mouth and praise an awesome God.

Turn to your neighbor and tell them I'm "Practicing for Eternity"!
How we worship
Worship involves physical and emotional aspects.
Others should be able to physically observe our worship.
Our emotion is necessary in our worship.
Just take a moment and think back to a time in your life when God showed up and showed out.
We often find physical and emotional expression through music and song.
Fundamentally, worship is an acknowledgment of who God is and what He has done.
Incorporating our bodily and emotional responses in worship is also an intelligent expression that involves the mind.
We are making the choice to worship God.
We are not robots or mindless drones!
(NKJV)
Mark 12:30 NKJV
And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment.
This means our worship should fully engage everything within us as we dwell on the greatness of God.
When I think about the good Jesus Christ and all that He's done for me my soul cries out hallelujah!
Worship should focus on glorious praise.
(NKJV)
Psalm 66:1–4 NKJV
Make a joyful shout to God, all the earth! Sing out the honor of His name; Make His praise glorious. Say to God, “How awesome are Your works! Through the greatness of Your power Your enemies shall submit themselves to You. All the earth shall worship You And sing praises to You; They shall sing praises to Your name.” Selah
Make a joyful noise!
If Jesus is real in your life give Him a hand clap of praise.
(NKJV)
Psalm 8:1–9 NKJV
O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens! Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger. When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, All sheep and oxen— Even the beasts of the field, The birds of the air, And the fish of the sea That pass through the paths of the seas. O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth!
On earth as it is in heaven.
We should worship on earth the way we would in heaven.
Free from hindrances
Completely focused on God
There is never a time or a situation in this life which we cannot worship God.
There is no valley, no depth, no darkness where God is not worthy of all praise and all glory.
Heavenly worship
In heaven we will continually worship God!
One of my favorite Contemporary Christian Music artist produced a song that was covered by Gospel Artist Tamela Mann "I can only Imagine".
Verse 1:
I Can Only Imagine
What it will be like
When I walk By your side.
I can only imagine
What my eyes will see
When your face Is before me
I can only imagine.
Chorus:
Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel?
Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still?
Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall?
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all?
I can only imagine
Verse 2:
I can only imagine.
When that day comes
And I find myself
Standing in the Son
I can only imagine
When all I will do is forever
Forever worship You
I can only imagine
If we can only imagine, then why can't we give Him a perfect praise here on earth?
1. We sit silently in worship.
2. Some of us seemingly emotionless.
But my God is an awesome God worthy to be praised!
Holy is The Lord God almighty! The Earth is filled with His glory!

Conclusion

In heaven we continuously worship God.
We will not be concerned about anything but worshiping Him.
Let us "Practice for Eternity" here on Earth.
He is the same God full of love and majesty.
He is the same God who created the Heavens and the Earth.
He is our protector & our provider.
While we are "Practicing for Eternity" though our worship on earth let us never forget that:
We were commanded to worship God,
Our worship should be both physical and emotional.
We should worship on earth the way we would in heaven.
✶ Have we applied the appropriate "worth" to God?
