A couple of weeks ago we considered in Philippians 1 how life is defined by Christ and how death is gain because it brings us into Christ's eternal presence. This week, over in chapter 3, Paul returns to this same theme of gain (or profit) and how knowing Jesus is everything we could ever hope for. Anything else we seek to profit from will come to nothing – to a loss – but in knowing Christ, we gain life and resurrection. Are you putting your hope in material rubbish or wallowing in the dung heap of religion? Or are you striving for a deeper relationship with Jesus? Because the latter will profit us for eternity.
