When I was 15 my family went on a cross-Canada vacation. We drove west to Alberta for my cousin’s wedding. We did a lot of sight-seeing along the way and we also spent time visiting my Aunt in British Columbia. It was an unforgettable trip. I got to see the Prairies and the Mountains and the Ocean for the first time. Our God has created a beautiful world. My family did not have a lot of money, so instead of renting motel rooms, we tented everywhere we went. When we planned our trip, we made a bad decision. We decided to go for 40 days and 40 nights – like Noah. Unfortunately, the time was not the only thing that was like Noah. Apparently, that summer was the wettest year on record in Saskatchewan. It rained every single night that we tented. I remember one night in particular. We were at Moose Mountain Provincial Park, in South-Eastern Saskatchewan. If you have ever laughed about the Hamilton Mountain, you have to visit Moose Mountain some day. It’s almost a hill. Almost. That particular night was memorable because of the thunderstorm. When we set up our tents, it was fairly dry but around midnight it began to rain. It rained so hard that my air mattress almost began to float inside my tent. The lightning was so bright that it lit up the campsite as though it were daytime. The most amazing thing, though, was the thunder. It crashed and banged. It was powerfully loud. We could hear it rumbling all around the prairies. Each clap of thunder seemed to go on forever… it started on one side and rolled towards us until it was right over our heads and then continued away. It was amazing

The God of glory thunders… The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic. The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars… The voice of the Lord strikes with flashes of lightning. The voice of the Lord shakes the desert… The voice of the Lord twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And in his temple all cry, “Glory!”

Wow.
