Priscilla, Aquila and Apollos
“Hundreds of thousands of people profess some type of belief in Christ, display reverence for God, go to church on Sundays, contribute to the offering, sit at the Lord’s table and admire the ethical teaching of the Lord – but are as lost. Whether that is you or you or God has placed you in someones life that needs Christ. There are a few things we can be sure of
Priscilla, Aquila and Apollos
1. God makes sure that we have help spreading His love.
After this, Paul left Athens and went to Corinth. 2 There he met a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had ordered all Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to see them, 3 and because he was a tentmaker as they were, he stayed and worked with them.
God has made sure that someone is there.
This was approximately AD 51
God PROVIDED JOB AND PLACE TO STAY FOR PAUL AND used Claudiaus decree to spread the Gospel. these three met and were a catalyst for the gospel THIS CAUSED MANY PLACE TO FLOURISH IN NUMBERS
TO CORINTHIANIZE SOMETHING IN THAT DAY WOULD MAKE IT IMMORAL MOUNTAIN THERE ACRA CORINTH WAS A TEMPLE TO AFRODITEE GODDESS OF LOVE/SEX
GOD SEEKS TO APPOINT ALL OF US THAT CHOOSE CHRIST
SLIDE OF THE PEOPLE GOD APPOINTED SHARED ON FACEBOOK
:1 And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. 2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3 I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. 4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, 5 so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.
55 MILES FROM ATHENS TO CORINTH
2. Then He will give you the appointment to be there for others.
23 After spending some time in Antioch, Paul set out from there and traveled from place to place throughout the region of Galatia and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples.
24 Meanwhile a Jew named Apollos, a native of Alexandria, came to Ephesus. He was a learned man, with a thorough knowledge of the Scriptures. 25 He had been instructed in the way of the Lord, and he spoke with great fervor t and taught about Jesus accurately, though he knew only the baptism of John. 26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they invited him to their home and explained to him the way of God more adequately.
3. We then, need to remain reachable and teachable so that the passion continues.
9 One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: “Do not be afraid; keep on speaking, do not be silent. 10 For I am with you, and no one is going to attack and harm you, because I have many people in this city.”
The evil we are at war with wants us silent
Is one of those timeless scriptures that help us in seasons of loss. It also talks of my cup overflowing. This may be a scripture used in physical passing, however spiritually and passionately this also talks about our cup overflowing with love for others. NOT BEING SILENT
27 When Apollos wanted to go to Achaia, the brothers and sisters encouraged him and wrote to the disciples there to welcome him. When he arrived, he was a great help to those who by grace had believed. 28 For he vigorously refuted his Jewish opponents in public debate, proving from the Scriptures that Jesus was the Messiah.
In verse 27 and 28 we are told that Apollos became a great help to those who believed. He refuted the Jews in public and proved the deity of Jesus from the Scriptures. Apollos was one of the best communicators of his day. All because of the investment of devoted tentmakers.
Charles Swindoll asks the following; “Who taught Martin Luther his theology and inspired his translation of the New Testament? Who visited Dwight L. Moody at a shoe store and spoke to him about Christ? Who was the elderly woman who prayed faithfully for Billy Graham for over twenty years? Swindoll goes on to write, “Had it not been for these unknown people – those nobodies – a large chunk of church history would be missing. And a lot of lives would have been untouched.
I know it is hard to believe sometimes, however Christ came here for each and every one of us, no matter what our past or current actions are. He came personally, passionately, so that we can overflow in Him so that others come to know HIM
