John 7:53-8:11
What the Religious Leaders where not trying to do
· The goal here was not restoration
· The goal was not to eradicate sin from the community of believers
What they were trying to do
· The goal was to create a situation for false accusation
· To literally tempt with sin or get Jesus to Sin
· To degrade or humiliate (the woman)
· Using people and their issues to bring reproach on innocent people or a person
Prov 1:8-19
Jesus’s answer to their foolery
· He who is without sin crucify her first
Romans 8:10-18; 23
What is doesn’t mean
· It doesn’t mean that we don’t hold ourselves and others in the body accountable
· Its not a prohibition against pointing out wrong, injustice or sin
What it does mean
· It literally is addressing writing some on off completely as non-redeemable
· Judgments that proceeds from a heart of unforgiveness
Jesus Response to the Woman
· Where are you accusers
· Neither do I; Go and sin no more
Jesus has forgiven you from the worst of worst, so go live a life free of sin.
Romans 5:8
I John 3:8
