The Way and The Truth and The Life

John 14:6 KJV 1900
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Why prompted Jesus to say this iconic and powerful statement? It was a question, a question from Thomas one of His disciples.
John 14:5 KJV 1900
Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
Thomas asked Jesus what the way was? “Lord, what is the way to Heaven, to glory, to peace, to hope, to righteousness?
“Do you know know the way? I am the Way!. I am the Truth! I am the Life!”
Let us examine each of these revelations this morning.

The Way

Jesus is the way spoken of in Isiah.
Isaiah 35:8 KJV 1900
And an highway shall be there, and a way, And it shall be called The way of holiness; The unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: The wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.
Jesus is not “a” way, but “THE” way.
He did not borrow the way from someone else. He made his own Way.
Hebrews 9:12 KJV 1900
Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
He made his own way by His own blood. And now He is our way. This is always the case with God’s grace.
His blood - our way.
His grace - Our salvation.
His Stripes - Our Healing.
His chastisement - Our Peace.
His Forsakenness - Our Forgiveness.
His intercession - Our Peace.
What a mighty God we serve!
In fact, The way is so linked to us that it was our first unofficial way before we were known a christians.
Acts 9:2 KJV 1900
And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.
Acts 22:4 KJV 1900
And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.
Jesus is the Way!

The truth

Again Jesus is not “a” truth. He is not a truth that is relevant to some but not others. He is not “my” truth, nor is he “your” truth, nor is he “our” truth. Jesus the THE truth!
This is powerful on so many levels.

1: Jesus is Truth as Opposed to Shadow.

Jesus Christ is the truth and substance of the Old Testament Shadows.
Jesus Christ is the true manna and bread from heaven.
John 6:32 KJV 1900
Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.
Jesus is the True Tabernacle and expression of God.
Hebrews 8:2 KJV 1900
A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.
Jesus is the True and Final sacrifice for the sins of humanity.
Hebrews 10:1–10 KJV 1900
For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

2: Jesus is Truth as Opposed to Lies.

There are many voices Speaking to us every day.
The Voice of the Flesh Shouting: “Satisfy! Satisfy!
The Voice of the World shouting: “Conform! Conform!”
The Voice of the Devil Shouting lie after lie after lie.
John 8:44–45 KJV 1900
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
But there is another voice, a soft still voice.
1 Kings 19:12 KJV 1900
And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
This is voice of Truth. Jesus Said:
John 18:37–38 KJV 1900
Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.
“What is truth?” Pilate asked.
What is the Truth about: Mans sinful condition? God’s Holy Nature, His righteous indignation? His coming judgment? and mankind only hope?
Jesus Answers: “I am the Truth”

3: Jesus is Truth as Opposed to Doubt.

Who wants to be a millionaire. When a person is unsure, they doubt., they waver. This is fine on a gameshow, but in life it is a tragedy.
James 1:6 KJV 1900
But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
A christian can have absolute confidence and trust in the things of God because the christian has absolute confidence and trust in the truth of God’s Word.
John 17:17 KJV 1900
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Its simple. God’s Word, trumps all other words. A Christian who stands on God’s Word never has to doubt. Because what he stands on is absolute Truth.

The Life

Jesus Christ is the Life as opposed to death.
We were dead and Christ is the only One who could give us life.
Romans 6:11 KJV 1900
Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Like a Spiritual defibrillator, Jesus applied His life to us by the Holy Spirit and Caused our Spirit to Live!
Were did this life come from?
Leviticus 17:11 KJV 1900
For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
Thats why Jesus Said:
John 6:53 KJV 1900
Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

The Way, The Truth and The Life

Lets put all 3 together.
I think Matthew Henry said it best in His commentary:

Let us consider these jointly, and with reference to each other. Christ is the way, the truth, and the life; that is, 1. He is the beginning, the middle, and the end. In him we must set out, go on, and finish. As the truth, he is the guide of our way; as the life, he is the end of it. 2. He is the true and living way (Heb. 10:20); there are truth and life in the way, as well as at the end of it. 3. He is the true way to life, the only true way; other ways may seem right, but the end of them is the way of death.

When you see all 3 and Understand the Power of these Word, you understand why:
“None come to the Father but by me” - Jesus Christ.
