GOD’S POWER IS INCOMPREHENSIBLE
His power is seen in His creation.
What we see are only small demonstrations of His power.
God does not have power He has gained, God is the very source of power and energy.
WHY WOULD GOD LAY THAT POWER ASIDE TO REST AFTER CREATION?
On the seventh day God rested.
God rested not because He needed to but because His people needed to.
God was pointing to something even greater than the Sabbath day of the old law.
GOD’S RESTING POINTS TO OUR NEED FOR REST.
HUMANS ARE DESIGNED TO NEED REST REGULARLY
The Sabbath day provided the rest the Israelites needed for renewal physically and spiritually
Jesus taught His disciples to rest regularly after being busy for Him.
Jesus himself rested often in the midst of His busy ministry.
;
GOD’S POWER IS NEVER ENDS BUT OUR ENERGY MUST BE REPLENISHED
GOD’S RESTING POINTS TO THE ETERNAL REST HE PROVIDES THROUGH JESUS.
GOD’S RESTING SET UP FOR A GREATER LESSON THAN OUR NEED FOR PHYSICAL AND SPIRITUAL REST
Hebrews 4:8-
The Sabbath rest for Christians is not the 24 hour day of the Old law or the rest given to the Israelites when Joshua led them into the promise land.
The rest that remains in our future is not a physical rest but an eternal rest.
GOD’S RESTING POINTS TO AN ETERNAL REST FOR THE FAITHFUL FROM LIFE’S LABORS.
For the faithful death is entering God’s rest - ;
This is the rest we should really be looking forward to more than anything.
If we are looking forward to it we will strive to enter it.
ARE WE MAKING EVERY EFFORT TO ENTER THE HIS REST.
ARE YOU STRIVING TO ENTER THE HIS REST?
ARE WE LIVING TO ENTERING HIS REST?
- We need to do what God calls us to do to enter (not earn) that rest.
What would keep us from entering His rest?
WE NEED TO MAKE SURE WE DO NOT “FALL BY THE SAME SORT OF DISOBEDIENCE” AS ISRAEL.
The first generation of Israelites fell in the desert and did not enter into the Promise Land.
We need to live for Christ in obedience focusing on heaven over earth.
