Come and See and Go and Tell
john 4.29
Big Idea of the Series: This four-week series explores how evangelism relates more to
our identity and maturity than it does to methods, marketing, and strategies.
Evangelism is begun, built, and sustained by simple acts of love which the Lord uses to advance his kingdom.
Big Idea of passage - Evangelism is just sharing the best part of your life with others.
It should be natural and not contrived.
It like sharing the most exciting and important part of your life.
Illustration - you just got a new job, you graduated college, you had a baby
You cant help but tell
One Small Step
A woman that has been abused by many men; she has a sinful life and when she walks down the streets mothers tell their kids to look the other way.
TO Her people the Samaritans she is just a toy for their use
The Jews wont even talk to her
She is
down
discouraged and
depressed
All the Samaritan woman did was tell what Jesus did?
No program
No five point plan
No cool brochure or graphics
The contrast could hardly be greater between Nicodemus and the woman at the well.
One was a man, the other a woman; one was a Jew, the other a Samaritan; the one was a respected ruler, the other a social outcast; the one was seen as a moral man, the other an immoral woman; the one came to Jesus by night, the other came at mid-day; the one had no arguments, only a wondering how, the other was full of questions and debate; the one was cautious, the other was bold; the one did not seem to know what he wanted, the other knew only too well; the one fades out of the story unnoticed, the other went back to her crowd and brought them all to Jesus; the one we hear of again (7:50; 19:39), the other fades into women’s usual invisibility in patriarchal society.
She was a woman;
A Samaritan;
A social outcast;
A immoral woman;
She went back to her crowd and brought them all to Jesus;

uses to advance his kingdom.
Jesus was heard because of the way he approached the women.
Much of the evangelism in the past has been the spitting out of biblical facts with out a single thought as to the cares and concerns of the person we are addressing.

Sermon Ideas and Talking Points:
1.
When discussing evangelism, it is common to talk about organizing prayer teams,
organizing events, and learning what the fastest growing churches in the world are
doing.
But evangelism does not have to be just driven by large events and
initiatives.
Evangelism simply means sharing the good news.
The good news we get to share is our encounter with Jesus.
Sharing that good news can be simple.

Our mission field starts with our friends, family, and coworkers.
To share with these people in our lives, we should look for tools to help people experience their own encounter with Jesus.
Perhaps the two most powerful tools the Lord gives us

john 4.28-
The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city.”
Why did she leave it?
Was it an act of thanks and appreciation, leaving it for Jesus to use? Was her heart so overflowing with living water that it was a subconscious, symbolic testimony to the new life within?
Was she already sure that she’d be back in a very short time?
She hurried home.
She rounded up the men.
What men?
The men she had once been married to?
The chief men of the village?
The word used is anthropos, the general New Testament word for a human being.
Some have translated it, “she saith to the people.”
In any case her testimony was clear, a call to action: “Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?”
Her testimony was simple; it was also successful.
“Then they went out of the city, and came unto him” (4:30).
Thus ends the evangelist’s description of this remarkable encounter.
