Isaiah 63:1–6 HCSB
Who is this coming from Edom in crimson-stained garments from Bozrah— this One who is splendid in His apparel, rising up proudly in His great might? It is I, proclaiming vindication, powerful to save. Why are Your clothes red, and Your garments like one who treads a winepress? I trampled the winepress alone, and no one from the nations was with Me. I trampled them in My anger and ground them underfoot in My fury; their blood spattered My garments, and all My clothes were stained. For I planned the day of vengeance, and the year of My redemption came. I looked, but there was no one to help, and I was amazed that no one assisted; so My arm accomplished victory for Me, and My wrath assisted Me. I crushed nations in My anger; I made them drunk with My wrath and poured out their blood on the ground.
People have written books like “Your God is too Small.” Your God is too nice” and “Your God is too safe”
Many people are familiar with “God is love” from
1 John 4:7–8 HCSB
Dear friends, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
but we often forget the truth of
Isaiah 6:3 HCSB
And one called to another: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of Hosts; His glory fills the whole earth.
In the throes of the Civil War, the verses of the Battle Hymn of the Republic were penned.
Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord, He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored; He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword His truth is marching on.
no doubt this verse is based on this passage.

Sin’s Defeat by the God of Splendor

Isaiah 63:1 HCSB
Who is this coming from Edom in crimson-stained garments from Bozrah— this One who is splendid in His apparel, rising up proudly in His great might? It is I, proclaiming vindication, powerful to save.
Edom- the Nation of Esau… His name is the word for Red. Play on words. This long time enemy of God and God’s people is representative of sin and all the unrepentant enemies of God throughout the ages.
God is seen as returning from battle, having thoroughly defeated HIS FOE.
Vindication- to administer justice. execute judgment.
One writer, speaking of the bloodiness of this language, reminds us that even though it sounds horrible to us, it can and should be seen as a beautiful thing. He gives the illustration of a bloody soldier liberating Jews from Nazi Germany. Even though that soldier may be splattered with the blood of the enemy, he would have been seen as a hero!
The Spiritual World is no different. We cannot negotiate with sin. It is sin that killed Jesus. and it sin that desires to kill all it touches.

Wrath’s Satisfaction by the God of Vengeance

Isaiah 63:2–6 HCSB
Why are Your clothes red, and Your garments like one who treads a winepress? I trampled the winepress alone, and no one from the nations was with Me. I trampled them in My anger and ground them underfoot in My fury; their blood spattered My garments, and all My clothes were stained. For I planned the day of vengeance, and the year of My redemption came. I looked, but there was no one to help, and I was amazed that no one assisted; so My arm accomplished victory for Me, and My wrath assisted Me. I crushed nations in My anger; I made them drunk with My wrath and poured out their blood on the ground.
When we think of revenge, we are always flawed by the concept.
The Lord says “Vengeance is mine”
Why? Well the truth is I cannot exact revenge without my own sinful nature getting in the way.
But God is completely holy. He alone can judge. He alone has the right to do so.
He points out in these verses that HE alone executed justice. No one was there to help.. Why? I believe it because no on else is holy enough. I can’t help God judge, my sin causes me to stand condemned also.
Since God alone is righteous and holy, God alone can judge.
I see people say things like “Only God can judge me.” WELL THAT’s NOT A GOOD THING, according to this passage.
When does this happen?
Revelation 19:11–16 HCSB
Then I saw heaven opened, and there was a white horse. Its rider is called Faithful and True, and He judges and makes war in righteousness. His eyes were like a fiery flame, and many crowns were on His head. He had a name written that no one knows except Himself. He wore a robe stained with blood, and His name is the Word of God. The armies that were in heaven followed Him on white horses, wearing pure white linen. A sharp sword came from His mouth, so that He might strike the nations with it. He will shepherd them with an iron scepter. He will also trample the winepress of the fierce anger of God, the Almighty. And He has a name written on His robe and on His thigh: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
Revelation 20:11–15 HCSB
Then I saw a great white throne and One seated on it. Earth and heaven fled from His presence, and no place was found for them. I also saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life, and the dead were judged according to their works by what was written in the books. Then the sea gave up its dead, and Death and Hades gave up their dead; all were judged according to their works. Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And anyone not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

Love the Sinner, Hate MY SIN.

Until sin and those who propagate it are defeated, there is no genuine salvation available.
The idea that redemption and continued sin can coexist is not biblical
The thought that we can have forgiveness of sin by the blood of Jesus while continuing to practice that which killed him is ludicrous.
How can we make a place in our lives for what we are confident must be destroyed in the end if Christ is to reign?
How can I excuse my sin while condemning yours?
How can we acts as if sin is anything but the sworn, deadly enemy of all we hold precious?
