Message: Seek the Things from Above
Evidence for the Resurrection
John Stott suggests, “Perhaps the transformation of the disciples of Jesus is the greatest evidence of all for the resurrection.
It was the resurrection which transformed Peter’s fear into courage and James’ doubt into faith.
It was the resurrection which changed the Sabbath into Sunday and the Jewish remnant into the Christian Church.
It was the resurrection which changed Saul the Pharisee into Paul the apostle and turned his persecuting into preaching.”*
* John R. W. Stott, Basic Christianity (Grand Rapids: Eerdman’s Publishing Company, 1969), 57–59.
The power of the Resurrection is to work out in these mortal bodies.
Therefore,
The believer’s new life is a life that is risen with Christ (v.1) ; Eph. 2:1,6
God identify us with Christ in His death and resurrection
God’s reckons, credits, and counts it so.
Note then: His resurrection means,
that we have risen with Him, conquered death, raised to a new life
that our old life in this sinful world is over; it no longer has a claim upon us
that
that we are walking in newness of life, a life that is dead to sin, but live to God(righteousness and holiness
; ,
(NKJV) 11But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
11But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
(NKJV) 1And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,
1And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,
(NKJV) 6and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
6and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
The believer’s new life is a life that seeks the things above-(heaven, where Christ is)(v.1-4)
; ; ; Eph. 4:22-24
seek heavenly things
set your “affection”, that is your mind constantly on heavenly things, not earthly.
(NKJV)
5For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
6For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
6For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
(NKJV) 2And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
2And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
(NKJV) 3For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.
4For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
3For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.
4For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,
5casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
(NKJV) 22that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
22that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,
