Introduction to Jonah

what is your familiarity with the book of Jonah and what do you think the meaning of the book is about?
this is a very unique writing there is not one similar to it in the bible and what it reveals to us about the character of the LORD, the Israelite people and the Gentiles is done in away that is eye opening and amazing.
this book is constantly misrepresented, manly to children and in children books. I still remember my first inpresion from someone about the book of Jonah and the whole point was that if the LORD’s will is for you to do something you will do it. that first of all is a warp perspective of the LORD’s will. Second of all this isn’t what I have seen in other biblical narrative such Isaac and Ishmael, Saul and David, Samuel and the sons of Eli.

Jonah 1:1–3 NLT
The Lord gave this message to Jonah son of Amittai: “Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh. Announce my judgment against it because I have seen how wicked its people are.” But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the Lord. He went down to the port of Joppa, where he found a ship leaving for Tarshish. He bought a ticket and went on board, hoping to escape from the Lord by sailing to Tarshish.

2 Kings 14:23–27 NLT
Jeroboam II, the son of Jehoash, began to rule over Israel in the fifteenth year of King Amaziah’s reign in Judah. He reigned in Samaria forty-one years. He did what was evil in the Lord’s sight. He refused to turn from the sins that Jeroboam son of Nebat had led Israel to commit. Jeroboam II recovered the territories of Israel between Lebo-hamath and the Dead Sea, just as the Lord, the God of Israel, had promised through Jonah son of Amittai, the prophet from Gath-hepher. For the Lord saw the bitter suffering of everyone in Israel, and that there was no one in Israel, slave or free, to help them. And because the Lord had not said he would blot out the name of Israel completely, he used Jeroboam II, the son of Jehoash, to save them.
durring the rain of Jeroboam II Jonah propheced good things for Jeroboam II even though he was a wicked King Why? the answer show us something about the LORD’s character
