Scholars can’t agree on a name: Song of Songs, Song of Solomon, or Latin “Canticles” (Song)
No obvious religious content (Kinlaw)
This book is a literal, powerful description of the romantic and sensual love between a man and a woman
Their courtship and their marriage
Not a smooth chronological story, it is a collection of “snapshots” of their courting and married life, with the pictures not necessarily in order
Also illustrates the love, the intensity, and the beauty of relationship that should exist between God and the believer
Primary for human marriage, secondary for God’s love
WARNING! There is some sexual language!

The woman is a Shulamite, or something of a “country girl” from Shunem
Think of it as someone from Brown Summit marrying the President

Solomon is referred to as “the beloved”
