Faith - “complete trust or confidence in someone or something”
Feelings - “an emotional state or reaction”
Do you feel sometimes like an atheistic believer?
You believe in God deep down inside, but you look at the things that happen around you and, are like “God where are you?”
Our feelings
There are two answers to this question:
Your worth is found in your faith and relationship with God
Your worth is found in something else
Misconception: I need to hide or suppress my feelings!
If I was living by faith I wouldn’t have the feelings I do. (I shouldn’t feel this way)
Maybe some of our feelings are rooted in unbelief, but many are just life!
Just because something hurts, doesn’t mean you have misplaced your identity!
Just because something hurts or angers you, doesn’t mean you have misplaced your faith!
Faith is not so much a replacement for our feelings, it is a response to our feelings!
Hurtful words
Things taken from you
Situations in life that cause uncertainty (death, accidents, sickness)
We then try to control our feeling
Have you ever tried to convince yourself that something didn’t bother you?
Faith is not so much a replacement for our feelings, it is a response to our feelings!
Where do you find your worth?
To say that we have faith in God is not to say that we stop feeling!
To say that we find our identity in God is not to say that we stop feeling! It is to say that we choose to live by truth, and not feelings!
Don’t just suppress your feelings! You might think its not ok to show your feelings, and you say “I’m fine!”
I don’t ever want this youth group to be a place where we come in and pretend like everything is alright, when it’s not.
The goal is not to pretend like we are put together, but rather to help build each other up.
We are choosing to live based off of the truth of God, and not how we are feeling at any given moment!
Having to hide a part of yourself means:
it is not okay to make a mistake.
Everyone else's needs appear to be more important than yours.
Don’t ever let your feelings tell you who your God is!
We are not who we think we are, we are not who others think we are, we are who we think others think we are.
There is nothing that can keep you from the promises of God
The one who matters most, will never leave!
Don’t just ask what are the feelings you have, but why you are having them!
What should we expect....feelings might not change right away. Feelings change day to day, but truth never changes. Run to the thing that doesn’t change!

You are not alone in this:

Scriptures of Abandonment:

1  O LORD, rebuke me not in your anger,

nor discipline me in your wrath.

2  Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am languishing;

heal me, O LORD, for my bones are troubled.

3  My soul also is greatly troubled.

But you, O LORD—how long?

7  “Will the Lord spurn forever,

and never again be favorable?

8  Has his steadfast love forever ceased?

Are his promises at an end for all time?

9  Has God forgotten to be gracious?

Has he in anger shut up his compassion?

1  O God, do not keep silence;

do not hold your peace or be still, O God!

1  My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?

2  O my God, I cry by day, but you do not answer,

and by night, but I find no rest.

Activity:

6 Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

God Sees You!
God Loves You!
God Doesn’t Condemn You!
God Loves You!

16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

God Wants You!

9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

God Will Not Forsake You!

6 Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

Moses had become their Savior
Moses had become their identity
Just because something hurts, doesn’t mean you have misplaced your identity!
To say that we find our identity in God is not to say that we stop feeling! It is to say that we choose to live by truth, and not feelings!
