Everybody Needs a Do-Over- John 21:1-17
When was the last time you messed up bigtime?
I love sailing!
It to me is so far the best past time I can think of.
When Im out on that water and its just me and the boat and Gods good grace-it feels really close to heaven.
You know I always love having some Hillsong United playing too.
Its so peaceful and I just love it.
I have a Hobie 16 which is a really fast sailboat.
It gets me into some pretty hairy situations.
Everytime I go sailing on that boat-something always goes wrong.
The last time I went out I had the Gopro mounted and recording the whole time.
OTher than the occasional wind gust that would almost blow me over-everything was great.
As I came into the cove-we were coming in hot-so as I point the bow towards the beach and run my boat aground-I fly off the side and fall into the water.
The people walking by on the beach didnt even check to see how I was doing.
I got up and said Im ok.
No big deal.
As I begin to take my sails off the boat to store it-a very crucial component that really is nothing more than a key ring had come loose.
Who knows how long that thing was loose on the lake?!
So as Im taking the front sail off the boat-with the Gopro catching every moment the mast begins to slowly fall.
As the corner of my eye catches the movement I jump and the mast falls into the lake all slow motion like.
Its like a giant tree just like whoosh!
Luckily no one was around or it could have killed someone.
I wish I could have had a do-over.
Nothing was hurt but my pride of course.
But I still wished I had checked that little ring.
Peter Always needed A Do-over
John 21:1-5
1.Grace Pursues
Give background about how Peter denied Jesus three times.
Jesus has pursued the disciples, manly Peter as youll see.
Think back over the last week or month-is there a time where you noticed God was pursuing you?
Is there something God wants you to do and he continues to bring it to your mind?
Gods grace pursues!
He finds us wherever we are.
John 21:5-
2.Grace Provides
Jesus has provided breakfast for the disciples.
What in your life recently have you seen where Jesus provided you with all you needed?
As you look back at some of your worst situations-you will see that Jesus was always there.
He gave you everything you needed to make it through.
Grace provides.
3.Grace Persists
Persist in greek means to remain, stay, or continue.
English-continue firmly or obstinately in an opinion or a course of action in spite of difficulty, opposition, or failure.
Before Jesus was crucified-Peter denied him three times.
Here Jesus gives Peter three opportunities to redeem himself and make it right.
Thats how much Jesus loves us.
He is willing to give us so many chances to get things right.
Gods grace is persistent.
It remains and continues.
Nothing will ever stop Gods grace.
No matter how hard things are.
No matter how difficult the failure might seem.
Gods grace persists.
He never gives up on us.
It just blows my mind because some of us are so sinful…yet God forgives and then he throws your sins into a sea of forgetfulness.
