Colossians 1

Only by the Grace of God

 

 1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ

     by the will of God,

               and

          Timothy our brother,

2 To the saints and faithful brethren

     in Christ

          who are in Colosse:

Grace to you and peace

     from God our Father

     and the Lord Jesus Christ.

M.O.T – Christian Greetings

C.I.T. –Paul wanted the Christians in the church at Colossae to understand his and their high calling in Jesus.

Thesis – While there are no longer apostles, Christians still have a high calling in Jesus and must understand it.

Proposition – I want the church to understand the high calling of God and the position of  privilege they have.

Probing Question – What is the position of privilege that God has placed us in?

Unifying Word – Positions

Transitional Sentence – While we may think of ourselves as common people, God has a much higher view of us.

I.  Our position in Christian life is the result of God’s choosing.  Vs. 1

II.  Our position in Christian life results from being in Christ.  Vs. 2a

III.  Our position in Christian life results from the gifts of grace and peace given by God.  Vs
