The Purge [Part III]
“The Benefits of Purge”
The benefits of doing what the Lord ask us to do.
: Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Opening Illustration: Four Christians met for a friendly gathering. During the conversation one said, "Our pastor said people often come to him and pour out there hearts, confess certain sins and needs. Let's do the same. Confession is good for the soul." In due time all agreed. One confessed he liked to sneak into a neighborhood fishpond without permission. The second said he went to bars and would sneak off when away from his church. The third confessed to liking to smoke and gamble. When it came to the fourth one, he wouldn't confess. The others pressed him saying, "Come now, we confessed ours. What is your secret or vice?" Finally he answered, Well if you insist, mine "It is gossiping and I can hardly wait to get out of here."
: Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
The Psalmist cried out to God to purge his soul and spirit, to wash him clean!
We must never harbor sin. Never let sin exist in you, confess it, bring it before the Lord and repent, and be made clean again. You say what is sin? The bible names a few…

Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
What happens if I live in the flesh in these things?

Therefore: We began this series titled The Purge.
Part One, August 5th: We dealt with the individual purging necessary by the Holy Spirit to walk in a manner worthy of the Holy calling. Jesus said pick up your cross- “daily” and follow me. That means die to your self- absorbtion, your self-centeredness, and your sinful side… Daily.
That’s individual purging, necessary to walk Holy and blameless before God; to walk in a manner worthy of Gods calling. Purge daily. Die daily to the flesh. Pick up your cross daily. You get it.
Part Two, August 12th: We dealt with the purging of the church family. We visited the 7 churches of Asia in Revelation and heard the good news and the bad news what Jesus Christ said to those churches. Judgment begins in the house of the Lord. Therefore, knowing now that God disciplines his own, He will level complaints against his own children…then what will the world receive when they reject Christ? Lets just say it will not be good!
Part Three, August 19th: Part three today will move us to answer the question “ what can expect if we obey God to purge us, individually, and corporately?” Obedience to God through Jesus Christ opens up the floodgate of Gods favor on us individually, and collectively as His people.

Purging sin daily is obedience to God through the indwelling Holy Spirit. Since we know who we are…how then should we live in relationship with God? How do we walk in a manner worthy of the calling? Well, not in your own strength that’s for sure!

Illustration: Speaking to a large audience, D.L. Moody held up a glass and asked, "How can I get the air out of this glass?" One man shouted, "Suck it out with a pump!" Moody replied, "That would create a vacuum and shatter the glass." After numerous other suggestions Moody smiled, picked up a pitcher of water, and filled the glass. "There," he said, "all the air is now removed." He then went on to explain that victory in the Christian life is not accomplished by "sucking out a sin here and there," but by being filled with the Holy Spirit. We must be emptied before we can be filled."

Question: "What or who is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit?"
The indwelling of Holy Spirit,[ the 3rd person of the Trinity] is the action by which God takes up permanent residence in the body of a believer in Jesus Christ. In the Old Testament, the Spirit would come and go from the saints, empowering them for service but not necessarily remaining with them (see ; ; ; ).
Question: "What or who is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit?"

The apostle Paul wrote, “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body” ().
These verses are telling us that the believer in Jesus Christ has the Holy Spirit, living in him. When an individual accepts Christ as personal Savior, the Holy Spirit gives the believer the life of God, eternal life, which is really His very nature (; ), and the Holy Spirit comes to live within him spiritually.

As the Holy Spirit lives in the believer, He brings about some life-changing results:
1) The indwelling Holy Spirit comes to a soul dead in sin and creates new life (). This is the new birth Jesus spoke of in .
2) The indwelling Holy Spirit confirms to the believer that he belongs to the Lord and is an heir of God and fellow-heir with Christ ().
3) The indwelling Spirit installs the new believer as a member of Christ’s universal church. This is the baptism of the Spirit, according to .
4) The indwelling Spirit gives spiritual gifts (God-given abilities for service) to the believer to edify the church and serve the Lord effectively for His glory ().
5) The indwelling Spirit helps the believer understand and apply the Scripture to his daily life ().
6) The indwelling Spirit enriches the believer’s prayer life and intercedes for him in prayer ().
7) The indwelling Holy Spirit empowers the yielded believer to live for Christ to do His will (). The Spirit leads the believer in paths of righteousness ().
8) The indwelling Spirit gives evidence of new life by producing the fruit of the Spirit in the believer’s life ().
9) The indwelling Spirit is grieved when the believer sins (), and He convicts the believer to confess his sin to the Lord so that fellowship is restored ().
10) The indwelling Spirit seals the believer unto the day of redemption so that the believer’s arrival in the Lord’s presence is guaranteed after this life ().
When you accept Christ as your Savior (), the Holy Spirit takes up residence in your heart, bringing with Him an entirely new life of love, relationship, and service to the Lord

That is the biblical process to receiving salvation by faith, forgiveness of sins, eternal life, with God. Therefore the Purge produces correct living.
In this process of God, provided through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, all that is necessary to open the floodgates of God on you as his child, on your family, and on our church is in Him…. The only begotten, Son of God.
Here’s what’s happening in you, in your family, in our church, and in the corporate church around the world… We are either operating daily in Christ or we are operating daily out of Christ. We are either abiding in Christ and He is abiding in us, or we are not abiding in Him at all. Hot or cold, pick one, Luke warm belongs to Satan!

Slaves, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. Closing illustration: How we admire the obedience a dog shows to its master! Archibald Rutledge wrote that one day he met a man whose dog had just been killed in a forest fire. Heartbroken, the man explained to Rutledge how it happened. Because he worked out-of-doors, he often took his dog with him. That morning, he left the animal in a clearing and gave him a command to stay and watch his lunch bucket while he went into the forest. His faithful friend understood, for that's exactly what he did. Then a fire started in the woods, and soon the blaze spread to the spot where the dog had been left. But he didn't move. He stayed right where he was, in perfect obedience to his master's word. With tearful eyes, the dog's owner said, "I always had to be careful what I told him to do, because I knew he would do it."
· Is it just chance that Dog is God spelled backwards? Jesus was obedient to the father unto His death. Should we live to accomplish anything less than that dog to his master? Jesus to His father?
The Benefits of the Holy Spirit Purge are …
I. Through Christ’s work, and his sending the Holy Spirit, we have conviction, confession, repentance, and restoration.
II. The Bible reminds us of our relationship with God through indwelling Holy Spirit, our helper, living in us.
III. The Bible reminds us all of the blessings of obedience; All that Christ died for, all that heaven has been built for, all that Calvary has paid for, all that we are now to live for, …has been paid in full by Jesus Christ; in Him we are eternal; heirs.

· Christ is alive in me,
· My conviction of sin proves his existence,
· My confession of sin proves His Lordship,
· My repentance from my sins proves I’m in relationship with Him.
Harbor no sin… Confessing my sins proves I’m ALIVE in Jesus
Jesus is Lord!
