· 148 viewsWe have a bad habbit of judging people who are not like us especailly if we feel we come from a better invironment or upbringing. Paul takes the time in Romans 2 to combat this idea of anyone being judge besides God himself.

Introduction:
No one like to be judged. But yet we find ourselves being judged everyday.
Judgement is very much a part of our everyday life. You can escape it and you can’t function without it.
What is judgement? A judgement is an attempt to draw a conclusion of truth after weighing out all the evidence at hand.We are judged for our character.
We are judged for our character.
We are judged on appearance.
We are judged by our status.
We are judged for our actions.
We are judged by our accent.
We are judged by our age.
We are judged by the color of our skill.
We are judged on performance. Which dictates our pay and job titles.
We are judged by
We have judges in the court system.
We have judges on American Idol, The Voice, World of Dance, The Four, and America’s Got Talent.
We have judges in the Church and outside the Church.
Everyone is making judgement calls all the time.
Jesus warned us about judging.
“Judge not, that you be not judged.
1 “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
Matt 7:1-
We are to learn to judge ourselves before we can make a proper judgement call on others.
We have to be careful with the measuring stick that we use to judge.
12 Not that we dare to classify or compare ourselves with some of those who are commending themselves. But when they measure themselves by one another and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding.

When a person is a good judge they are called wise. Wisdom is the ability to discern a citation and make a correct or truthful judgement.

There is indeed a rightful and just judge which is God.
God is the measure and righteous standard by which all of us are judged.
Chapter two of Romans gives the authority and rule of God to judge every single person that has ever been or will be.
We have already learned from Chapter one that God cannot be denied and therefore we are subject to Him. To say he doesn’t exist is foolishness because you have to deny yourself.
Now that we are subject to the Creator, Paul reveals the measure of God judgement is the law.
Either the law of God’s Word or the law of God written on everyone’s heart: conscience.
Either way we are found guilt because we don’t measure up to even our own standards of life.
Let’s dive in and see what we can learn from the judgement of God.

Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things.

There is no doubt that we are all inexcusable in the eyes of the Lord. Chapters 1 -3 are written to leave no doubt that everyone has sinned and fallen short of the glory and righteousness of God.
When you understand the nature of God you will realize that He created the law to show us our error in hopes that we will turn from our wicked ways. Much like we do to our children.
5 And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. 6 For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” 7 It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?
11 For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

When we are judged by the Lord it is always to move us to a place of repentance and not condemnation.

So how can we embrace the judgement of the Lord in such a way that we can grow through it and be better because of the judgement that God has revealed.
The rest of lays out 3 principles that will help you embrace the judgement of the Lord for your spiritual growth.

The first principle is an inward focus on yourself:
“When you learn to judge yourself you will be free to love others.”

Jesus warned the people about the Pharisees of his day that would set up all these rules and would keep them themselves.
He called them Hypocrites
Religion always leads to the judgement of others.
Religion by it’s nature produces a set of rules that are used to judge the spiritualness of others.
These rules are not the laws of god but the traditions of men.
6 And he said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, “ ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; 7 in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ 8 You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.”

All this accomplishes is a revelation of hypocrisy in those that make and break the rules.

You can’t hold someone accountable for something they have never known.
There is a difference in ignorance and rebellion.
Ignorance is the lack of understanding and knowledge of a situation or truth.
Rebellion is direct defiance to a higher authority or truth.

Self-seeking is rebellion to God and will result in wrath.

God has placed the law on the hearts of every person that we call a conscience. This is the second undeniable truth for God. God has given every person a witness in themselves of right and wrong.

25 For circumcision indeed is of value if you obey the law, but if you break the law, your circumcision becomes uncircumcision.

26 So, if a man who is uncircumcised keeps the precepts of the law, will not his uncircumcision be regarded as circumcision? 27 Then he who is physically uncircumcised but keeps the law will condemn you who have the written code and circumcision but break the law.

Every Jew was to be circumcised as a part of God’s chosen people.

Jesus is the complete fulfillment of the law. He never sinned against the Father.
Jesus took our penalty of sin and paid it in full on the cross.

Through Christ we have been circumcised in the Spirit.
Our debt to God is paid in full.
