Intro

Matthew 28:18–19 NKJV
18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
What We Know So Far
Jesus has authority in heaven & on earth. (Mt. 28:18)
We should respond in obedience.
We should realize that He speaks on our behalf to the father in heaven.
He left behind an earthly kingdom (the Church)
While going on our way we should make disciples of ALL people. (Mt. 28:19a)
While living out your lives, have people follow your lead.
Have a life worth imitating
Imitate Christ.
Appreciate the inclusivity of the Gospel
“…baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit...”
In Keene, New Hampshire, Robin Hood is at work. A group of six people, calling themselves the Robin Hooders, shadow city parking enforcement officers and feed change into expired meters just before the officer has a chance to check. The city has filed a civil lawsuit against the group, which a lower court judge tossed. The city appealed the case to the New Hampshire Supreme Court.
We are all guilty of more than a parking violation, but Jesus has paid our fees. Praise the name of Jesus!

The method may not be appreciated or normal according to our standards but salvation is salvation! Many people argue about the validity of baptism, whether it is necessary for salvation, or at all for that matter. But If I knew that salvation was offered and I could do nothing about it on my own I wouldn’t shun any help. Thankfully God’s word guides us on things we don’t know and situations we cannot get out of by ourselves. Once again, salvation is salvation, I don't know any sane person who would turn it down! C.W. Sin: The Threat to All Mankind

Sin entered the world through Adam and Eve and it has been a problem ever since. We see humankind created through God with a total dependance on God. This same God provides everything that man needs. But the desire of mankind overpowers the desire to obey God and trust that what is given is all that is NEEDED. We see the formula for sin in .
James 1:13–15 NKJV
13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
When we want to closely examine the things that God has instructed us to stay away from it leads to a strong urge to want to have those things. Then when we indulge in those things sin is born. The crushing blow to us as human beings is that when this sin matures it leads to death for us.
Sin Defined
There are several different words in the Bible that are used to portray the idea of sin. Most mean to “Miss the mark”, as in speaking of archery terms and missing where you were trying to hit. The other is transgression, which means to violate a law or command.
What is sin?
Romans 3:23 NKJV
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Since this is the case that we all have sinned we should know about how it is affecting us. We all either miss the mark failing to be who are supposed to be or we willingly are in opposition to God. We have to understand how powerful sin is and what it can do to us.
The power of sin.
The Power of Sin
Sin is power. ()Ignorance is it's friend ()It has changing powers (evil behavior, hardening of hearts, alienating from God, leading to death. () (
Sin has power. () ()
Ephesians 3:1–3 NKJV
1 For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for you Gentiles—2 if indeed you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which was given to me for you, 3 how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already,
Ephesians 2:1–3 NKJV
1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.
Romans 5:21 NKJV
21 so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Ignorance is it's friend ()
Ephesians 4:17–19 NKJV
17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; 19 who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
It has changing powers (evil behavior, hardening of hearts, alienating from God, leading to death. () ()
Romans 7:21–24 NKJV
21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. 22 For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?
Romans 6:23 NKJV
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Man alone cannot defeat it ()
Romans 7:24 NKJV
24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?
What does this eternal death look like?
Hell
You will not accidentally end up there. ()
Matthew 13:36–43 NKJV
36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field.” 37 He answered and said to them: “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. 38 The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one. 39 The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels. 40 Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age. 41 The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, 42 and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!
It will be eternal damnation/punishment. (; ; )
Matthew 25:46 NKJV
46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
Matthew 8:12 NKJV
12 But the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
Revelation 21:8 NKJV
8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
The fire never goes out. ()
Mark 9:43 NKJV
43 If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—
Sin is a very real problem for human beings, one in which we cannot save ourselves from. No person alive will be able to escape hell alone. The devil would love for everyone to remain ignorant of sin and it’s consequences which are hell. Once again, you can find nowhere in the Bible where human beings are able to deal with the problem of sin alone. We NEED help!

Baptism: The Vehicle of Salvation

The Bible speaks of many different religious rites involving water for the purposes of cleaning. The ripple effect of God’s omnipotence was intentional. We see from the OT to the NT baptism being used as a cleansing agent. When sin is in the picture you will most definitely get dirty!

Matthew 28:19 NKJV
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Jesus’ command to baptize was about much more than cleansing of flesh. His disciples that he spoke these words to understood Him and were closest to Him. They obeyed Him.
Acts 2:5 NKJV
5 And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven.

Acts 2:36–41 NKJV
36 “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.” 37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” 38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” 40 And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.” 41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.

Galatians 3:26–29 NKJV
26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Acts 18:8 NKJV
8 Then Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his household. And many of the Corinthians, hearing, believed and were baptized.
Acts 16:14–15 NKJV
14 Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul. 15 And when she and her household were baptized, she begged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.” So she persuaded us.
John 3:5 NKJV
5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
Water throughout scripture has been associated with cleansing and salvation. Whether you are looking at the cleaning of Aaron with his sons or salvation found going through the waters of the Red Sea with Moses. Baptism removes the guilt of our past to where God no longer holds us accountable for them. It is the vehicle through which God adds to the Church. And it is how one becomes a Christian.

Saving Disciples

Matthew 28:19 NKJV
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Our responsibility is clear in Christ’s command to make disciples. They must be made as we go about our lives. People have to be able to follow our examples. We must baptize those disciples to help in overcoming the power of sin in their lives. We are upon this earth little Christs. We follow His lead as we wear His name. He came to this earth in the form of a man introducing us to the very nature of God. He died, was buried, and rose on the third day NEW! That is the Gospel, the GOOD NEWS! We too can experience it as well.
In our sinful state seeking the desires of our flesh, God made a way for us to overcome. But we first too must decide to be obedient to God and give up our lives. We are buried in water. The word for baptism in the Greek literally means to bury. We go down as simply sinful people. But we come up new creatures in Christ, having our sins washed away. No longer bearing the penalty. At the point of baptism we are in union with The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.
