Paul’s passion for the gospel is based on a genuine belief that the gospel of God concerning His Son Jesus Christ is the absolute solution the the greatest problem in the world.
He is eager to share this solution to them in Rome because he is not ashamed of the gospel because it is the power of God unto salvation for everyone who believes.
Do we have that belief?
I think that so many who have genuinely come to Christ don’t have the experience of the power of God in their life on a day to day basis.
So it’s no wonder that we don’t have the same passion that Paul has.
If some horrible disease had grown to epidemic proportions and millions upon millions were dying and you had the cure then you would be enthusiastic about taking that cure and distributing it as far and wide as possible.
But the gospel is a little different than that isn’t it?
It’s like the whole world has a disease and we have the cure but the majority of the world have convinced themselves that they are perfectly healthy.
Perhaps we even begin to believe that the world is not all that bad.
That where we desperately need to hear Paul’s words this morning.
The wrath of God is being revealed against the world because they suppress the truth that they have received.
Namely the truth about God as we see in vs 19.
But this truth has been suppressed.
Manifest in Them
How is this?
We were created by God for God to give glory to God.
So it stands to reason that God’s law would be written in our hearts.
Knowledge of God in manifest within us, within every person is a knowledge of God a truth deep within us.
A truth which is suppress
But not only has God made himself know to us through the very image of himself which is in us he has also shown us the truth about himself
Shown unto Them
God has revealed the truth about himself in creation.
Even though God in invisible he has given us undeniable visible evidence of himself.
The invisible God is understood “by the things that are made” That phase all comes from one Greek word “poiema /poy·ay·mah” which is the word that we get our english word poem.
So the creation the vast universe right down to the smallest molecule is God’s poem which he has written to make himself known.
When we look at a painting we learn something about the artist as when we see a sculpture or read a poem.
The very most base thing that we learn is that the artist exists.
But we learn even more than that.
We get to see a little bit into they’re soul.
And God has written his poem in the creation of this world and all that is in it, including us, and by this poem the invisible things or God are clearly seen.
It is mind boggling to me when I hear some atheist say “well if God wanted me to believe in Him then why doesn’t He just prove that he exists.
God has made Himself so abundantly known by the revelation through creation that we be completely blind not to see Him.
And in fact that is exactly the case.
Because they suppress the truth of God and seeing they see not and hearing they hear not and even what light they have is taken away.
So God Has revealed himself in us and shown himself to us through creation and incase we might say well maybe they just missed the signs and the evidence.
Paul tells us that
Understood by Them
Clearly seen
Understood
even His eternal power and Godhead
The conclusion is that they which have all this revelation and yet suppress this truth they are without excuse.
On the day of judgement not one person will have an argument no one will have an excuse.
What does this all mean fo us?
Give glory to God and be thankful in your hearts to Him.
When we come to understand that the gospel id the power of God to save everyone who believes from the wrath of God.
let us be eager to share this good news.
and be encouraged because even though many deny God they have the truth of God in them and around them.
They may have suppressed that truth to the point of being blind but God can heal blindness.
