Good News for Burdened Believers

A. We’re all familiar with burdens. We know physical burdens, financial burdens, fearful burdens. From the time of the fall, people have carried burdens.
B. Jesus invited the burdened to come to Him ()
Matthew 11:28–30 NKJV
28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Those carrying heavy burdens were invited to come to Him. Those weary from carrying their burdens came to Him. There is good news for burdened believers.

What Can You Do with Your Burden?

Psalm 55:22 NKJV
22 Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.
So what can you do?

Cast Your Burden Upon the Lord

1. Stop trying to carry your burden. God longs to carry it for you.
2. Who is the burden carrier?
a. It is Jesus, who carried our sin to the cross.
b. It is Jesus, who cares for you and me ()
1 Peter 5:7 NKJV
7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
3. “To cast our burden on God, is to rest upon His providence and promise.” (Matthew Henry)

What Will God Do with Your Burden?

“What God lays on you, lay on Him” (C. H. Spurgeon)

God Takes our Burden and Sustains Us by His Love

1. He takes our burden of sin ()
2 Corinthians 5:21 NKJV
21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
2. He takes our burden of sorrow ()
Isaiah 53:4 NKJV
4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.
3. He takes our burden of grief ()
John 11:35 NKJV
35 Jesus wept.

God Takes Our Burdens and Gives Us Blessings

1. God sustains those who were without strength. ()
Romans 5:6 NKJV
6 For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.
2. He will never allow the righteous to be moved. ()
Psalm 55:22 NKJV
22 Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.
a. Here is certain security.
b. “He who bore the burden of our sorrows, desires us to leave to Him the burden of our cares.” (Matthew Henry)
3. This is demonstrated in the cross and resurrection.
a. The dying thief traded his doubts for faith, hell for heaven.
b. The cross proves God’s all-sufficient love
c. The resurrection proves God’s all-sufficient power.
4. Those who rest their full faith in the immovable One will not be moved.
Conclusion:
1. Cast your burdens on Christ today!
2. You will find His grace sufficient for all your needs.
a. He will forgive your sin and assure you of heaven.
b. He will carry your burdens and give you peace.
