Introduction

John 20:30–31 KJV 1900
30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

The Word of God

The Bread of Life

John 6:35 KJV 1900
35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
Jesus declares Himself as the “Bread of Life”
He says, that as, ‘the Bread of Life”, he that believes on Him has everlasting life. .
John 6:47 KJV 1900
47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
Eternal life is a sure thing when we believe with surety that Christ is the Bread of Life.
He compares His day with the days of Israel. That His day was even greater.
John 6:48–51 KJV 1900
48 I am that bread of life. 49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. 50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. 51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
48-
Just as surely bread/manna from heaven sustained the temporal life of the Israelites through the wilderness journey, just as surely will the one who partakes of the “Bread of Life” have eternal life.
For by partaking of Christ he receives the very life of Christ in his soul, and there is not only the surety of a life that will measure with the life of God, but there is spiritual life given him.
John 10:10 KJV 1900
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
How does one “partake of Christ”?
John 6:53–56 KJV 1900
53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. 54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
jn 6 53-
John 6:54–55 KJV 1900
Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
To have eternal life dwelling in us we must “eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink His blood.”
jn 6
What is the experience of “eating His flesh, and drinking His blood?”
John 6:56 KJV 1900
56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
jn 6
The experience of “eating His flesh, and drinking His blood” is an experience where the individual learns to abide in Christ, and where also He allows Christ to abide in him.
But how do we begin to abide in Christ and He in us? How do we receive Him as the Son of God?
John 6:63 KJV 1900
63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
We begin to abide in Him and He in us when we receive His words as “Bread of Life” to the soul. When we believe in the inspired word of God, not as the word of men, but as it is in verity, the word of God.
The receiving of God’s word imparts eternal life, for Christ Himself is “the Word of God”. The words of God create life in us when received in the soul.
Desire of Ages Chapter 41—The Crisis in Galilee

By looking constantly to Jesus with the eye of faith, we shall be strengthened. God will make the most precious revelations to His hungering, thirsting people. They will find that Christ is a personal Saviour. As they feed upon His word, they find that it is spirit and life. The word destroys the natural, earthly nature, and imparts a new life in Christ Jesus. The Holy Spirit comes to the soul as a Comforter. By the transforming agency of His grace, the image of God is reproduced in the disciple; he becomes a new creature. Love takes the place of hatred, and the heart receives the divine similitude. This is what it means to live “by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” This is eating the Bread that comes down from heaven.

Living Water

John 7:37–39 KJV 1900
37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
37
Christ is the Living Water is a beautiful thought.
He first made reference to this fact to the Samaritan woman at the well.
John 4:10 KJV 1900
10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
jn 4 10
John 4:13–15 KJV 1900
13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. 15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
jn 4 13
Christ is the Living Water.
Before coming to Christ, the soul is constantly “thirsting” for something it has not.
Jeremiah 2:13 KJV 1900
13 For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.
The heart of man throbs to know the peace of God which this world cannot give.
John 14:27 KJV 1900
27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Ecclesiastes 5:10–11 KJV 1900
10 He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity. 11 When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes?
Steps to Christ Chapter 3—Repentance

The same divine mind that is working upon the things of nature is speaking to the hearts of men and creating an inexpressible craving for something they have not. The things of the world cannot satisfy their longing. The Spirit of God is pleading with them to seek for those things that alone can give peace and rest—the grace of Christ, the joy of holiness. Through influences seen and unseen, our Saviour is constantly at work to attract the minds of men from the unsatisfying pleasures of sin to the infinite blessings that may be theirs in Him.

Desire of Ages Chapter 49—At the Feast of Tabernacles

Jesus knew the wants of the soul. Pomp, riches, and honor cannot satisfy the heart. “If any man thirst, let him come unto Me.” The rich, the poor, the high, the low, are alike welcome. He promises to relieve the burdened mind, to comfort the sorrowing, and to give hope to the despondent. Many of those who heard Jesus were mourners over disappointed hopes, many were nourishing a secret grief, many were seeking to satisfy their restless longing with the things of the world and the praise of men; but when all was gained, they found that they had toiled only to reach a broken cistern, from which they could not quench their thirst. Amid the glitter of the joyous scene they stood, dissatisfied and sad. That sudden cry, “If any man thirst,” startled them from their sorrowful meditation, and as they listened to the words that followed, their minds kindled with a new hope. The Holy Spirit presented the symbol before them until they saw in it the offer of the priceless gift of salvation.

So Christ is the Water of Life to those who will receive Him, believe in Him, trust in Him.
He is the Water of Life to those who are tired of trying to fill up their lives with the vanities of this world in their hole stricken souls.
To those who desire something better in life than what they now experience He extends His invitations:
Revelation 21:6 KJV 1900
6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
Revelation 21:16 KJV 1900
16 And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.
Revelation 22:17 KJV 1900
17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

Light of the World

John 8:12 KJV 1900
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
There are several times in the book of John alone where Christ refers to Himself as the “Light of the World”
He is the Light of the world to those who realise the darkness of sin, and of this world.
The One who set the lights of this universe into motion in the beginning is the One who sets in motion the spark of life existing in each on of us.
John 1:9 KJV 1900
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
What does it mean to believe in Jesus as the “Light of the World”?
It means to follow Jesus in the way of everyday life.
With numerous times when we must make important decisions in life or when we have momentous experiences when often our own hearts and motives need to be examined Christ is the Source of light that reveals our true motives and allows His works to be wrought in us and gives us light to indicate the way in which we should go.
John 3:21 KJV 1900
21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
jn 3
He does the truth: He loves it, seeks it, follows it.
He comes to the Light: He does not attempt to deceive himself or others.
That his deeds may be made manifest: He is willing to know himself, and aims to do it. He desires to know the true state of his own heart before God.
Psalm 139:23 KJV 1900
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts:
Psalm 139:23–24 KJV 1900
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.
Wrought in God: He desires to be a good man; to receive continual aid from God, and to perform such actions as he will approve.
Psalm 19:14 KJV 1900
14 Let the words of my mouth, And the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.
There is a correlation between the light coming into this world in the beginning and Christ being the Light of the world.
The world in the beginning was empty, void of any life, chaotic.
Our lives before receiving Christ are empty, void of any life, and chaotic.
God spoke, “let there be Light” and there was Light.
The word of God enlightens the deadened conscience to spiritual life.
Light was the very thing that was needed in order to create everything after.
Receiving Christ as the Light of the world is very first experience needed in order for our lives to recreated into His image.
Light is abundantly shed upon the whole earth.
So the life of Christ is freely and abundantly offered to every soul who walks this earth, “the just and the unjust”.
2 cor
2 Corinthians 4:6 KJV 1900
6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 60:1–3 KJV 1900
1 Arise, shine; for thy light is come, And the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. 2 For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And gross darkness the people: But the Lord shall arise upon thee, And his glory shall be seen upon thee. 3 And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, And kings to the brightness of thy rising.

I AM Who I AM

John 8:58 KJV 1900
Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
(KJV 1900) — 58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

Light of the World

John 8:12 KJV 1900
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
His eternal life and eternal presence.
Psalm 139:6–10 KJV 1900
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain unto it. 7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? Or whither shall I flee from thy presence? 8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: If I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; 10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, And thy right hand shall hold me.
6-
There is no other than Him to depend on. He is the great I AM.
Isaiah 45:5 KJV 1900
5 I am the Lord, and there is none else, There is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
Isaiah 45:21–23 KJV 1900
21 Tell ye, and bring them near; Yea, let them take counsel together: Who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? Have not I the Lord? and there is no God else beside me; A just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me. 22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: For I am God, and there is none else. 23 I have sworn by myself, The word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, Every tongue shall swear.
isa 45 21 23
Every knee will bow at the name of Jesus. Decide when you will do it.
Philippians 2:10 KJV 1900
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
Christ is the all-encompassing mighty God.
Isaiah 9:6 KJV 1900
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: And the government shall be upon his shoulder: And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
He is Alpha and Omega.
Revelation 1:8 KJV 1900
8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
Revelation 21:6 KJV 1900
6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

The Door

John 10:1–2 KJV 1900
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
John 10:7–9 KJV 1900
7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. 9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
Christ is the only “door” by which we can enter through to find peace, rest, and salvation.
Hebrews 10:19–20 KJV 1900
19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
We enter through this door by faith.
It takes the exercise of faith to find Christ as the “door” to our salvation.
Romans 5:1–2 KJV 1900
1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
1-2
Ephesians 2:18 KJV 1900
18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.
Ephesians 3:12 KJV 1900
12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.
eph 3
It’s in Christ that we have find all the complete fulfilment of the promises of God.
2 Corinthians 1:20 KJV 1900
20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
All temporal and spiritual blessings come through Him. He is the Way.
Hebrews 4:16 KJV 1900
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:14–16 KJV 1900
14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Numbers 27:15–17 KJV 1900
15 And Moses spake unto the Lord, saying, 16 Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation, 17 Which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the Lord be not as sheep which have no shepherd.

Numbers 27:21–22 KJV 1900
21 And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall ask counsel for him after the judgment of Urim before the Lord: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation. 22 And Moses did as the Lord commanded him: and he took Joshua, and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation:

The Good Shepherd

John 10:11 KJV 1900
I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
What does that mean that Christ is the “Good Shepherd”?
Isaiah 40:11 KJV 1900
11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: He shall gather the lambs with his arm, And carry them in his bosom, And shall gently lead those that are with young.
He satisfy our every need. When we are hungry He will lead us to green pastures. When we are thirsty, He will lead us beside still waters. When we are wounded, He will bind us up. When we are afraid, He will protect us. When we are weak, He will carry us in His bosom.
Ezekiel 34:11–15 KJV 1900
11 For thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out. 12 As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered; so will I seek out my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day. 13 And I will bring them out from the people, and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land, and feed them upon the mountains of Israel by the rivers, and in all the inhabited places of the country. 14 I will feed them in a good pasture, and upon the high mountains of Israel shall their fold be: there shall they lie in a good fold, and in a fat pasture shall they feed upon the mountains of Israel. 15 I will feed my flock, and I will cause them to lie down, saith the Lord God.

The Resurrection and the Life

John 11:25–26 KJV 1900
Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
jn 11 25-
Christ is the source of all Life.
On Him do we depend for our resurrection and eternal life.
Just as Christ has power over death and to raise the dead, so through redemption has power over spiritual death and to give us spiritual life.
Ephesians 2:1–7 KJV 1900
1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, 5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) 6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: 7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
eph 2 1-
He is the Resurrection and the Life to those who make His life their own.
Colossians 3:4 KJV 1900
4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
1 John 3:2 KJV 1900
2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

The Way, Truth, & Life

John 14:6 KJV 1900
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
There is no other way apart from Christ to receive the blessings of heaven.
There is no other truth apart from Christ and His word that so honestly tells us who we really are, and who God is.
There is nothing apart from Christ and His word that can impart life and happiness to the soul. That has power to resurrect and awaken a dead conscience to the living God.

The True Vine

John 15:1 KJV 1900
I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
