Theme - Jesus is the Light that came into our world of darkness. Through Him we have eternal life.

Our reading today is . This is Jesus teaching about Himself. We begin our reading at
INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION
In our reading we have skipped verses 1-12. This is a story about a women caught in adultery. It is a good story about the compassion of Jesus for one caught in sin. Some say it belongs at the end of Luke during the passion week.
Many think it was not originally in the early manuscripts. Most of your Bibles will have some indication of this by use of lines drawn across the page or footnotes in the margin. If it were to be here it would be as a reminder that Jesus does not judge but rather came to forgive. It also tells us that we need to be sure we are free from sin ourselves before we condemn others.
In verses 12-30 Jesus is telling them and us who He is. The focus in on Jesus as the Light of the world. That light is seen in eight very distinct ways.

Where I came from
Where I am going
Jesus KNEW His origins in heaven and His eventual return to heaven. The religious leaders did not even know of His earthly place of birth how could they know of His heavenly connections

You will look, seek but not find because you are looking in the wrong places
Sin in its essence in 24 He will speak of commited acts here He is speaking about the motive and substance that makes people do what they do.
This is what Jesus said to the disciples in chapter 7, but for them there was a hope that one day they would come to be where He is. For these people that hope is not extended not because they could not change, but because they were so filled with pride and hate they would not change.
V.28 When you have lifted up the Son of Man
When this crucifixion and ascension happens they you will know by experience that what I am saying is true but for most of them it made know difference. Just as in our lives knowing the facts about Jesus or even salvation does not of itself make a change in our lives.

Talks of wisdom that is earthly or bound up in earthly, worldly desires and that which is pure which comes from heaven
7. V. 26 A provision because of Light Judge -
I have much to say in Judgment of you
The very words of Jesus has brought judgment and His further teachings will go on judging them for that is what light does. The truth the Father has been telling through Jesus condemns them and us now and at the final judgment.
8. V.29b An appeal of Light Holiness -
I do always what pleases Him
This is the reason Jesus give for why the Father is with Him and He is not alone. This is the bases for holy living. First to do the will of the Father. Obedience reflects what the Father is doing in our lives.
Conclusion - V.30 Many put their faith in Him
