hey kids, i’m going to let you look at something very precious to me, so please be very careful with it. this is my wedding ring, my wife ruthie gave me it two years ago today. do you know why she gave it to me?
what should i do with this wedding ring? if i get it dirty should i throw it away? why not?
should i put it in a box to keep it safe forever where no one can find it or see it? Why not?
if i lose it what do you think i’m going to do? Forget about it?
Did you know that God loves you more than your parents love you? and more than your parents love each other?
Did you know that he gave you something even more precious than this ring to mark you out as someone who God loves, and who loves God? Do you know what that is? baptism
read col 2:11-12
when you were a little baby, your parents had you baptised so that they could show that God loves you your whole life, and that you love God your whole life. now when i married ruthie two years ago, i promised that i would love her my whole life, and i intend to keep that promise. now who is better at keeping promises, me or God?
Do you think that the God who loved you so much that he gave his son to die for you, will ever leave you, even if you mess up or get dirty? do you think if he gave you a beautiful sign and seal like baptism would ever take it away from you?
now even though i have this ring from ruthie, does that mean i can be mean to ruthie? Why not? she gave me this ring and she’s stuck with me!
she’s my wife, and i love her very very much, and she loves me very very much. want to be nice to her, and show her i love her!
Did you know that God loves you very very much? and he takes care of you? Does that mean you can be mean to God? Why not?
you show that you have that sign and seal on your heart by believing God, loving him and obeying his commandments. so what will you do?
I want you guys to remember every time you see someone baptised in the church whether it’s a baby or an adult, what God has done for you. God loves you and takes care of you, and that’s why you too were baptised.
