Recap

Week 1 - Restoration of Courage
in order to represent Christ in our community, we are going to need courage. Courage that can only come from the Holy Spirit
Week 2 - Compassion Goggles
if we are going to see our community changed by Jesus, we are going to need to see things through the lens of compassion
Feeding the 5,000 - Jesus met their physical needs (hunger) as well as their spiritual needs
Week 3 - Projecting Jesus
who is Jesus to you? Do you really believe what the Bible says about Him?
If what the Bible says is true, the probability of one man accidentally fulfilling the prophecies about the Messiah aren’t even calculatable
Remember: Silver dollars covering every land mass on the earth, piled 120 feet high, only one is marked and you have to walk around blind folded and find the marked one on your first guess. this was just for 8 prophecies! There are 61 recorded that Jesus fulfilled.
Week 4 - Truth + Mercy > Judgment
the woman caught in adultery
we are all on the same playing field - we’ve all sinned
we don’t want to judge someone - this means that we are pointing out their sin IN LOVE
if our only desire to point out their mistake but not love them through it, we are doing damage to them
Feedback: live your life to the right (Specific Negative, Specific Positive)
WRAPPING UP OUR SERIES THIS WEEK...

As we Re-Present Jesus to our community, we are // “BETTER TOGETHER”

WRAPPING UP OUR SERIES THIS WEEK...
John 1:35–51 ESV
35 The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, 36 and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” 37 The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. 38 Jesus turned and saw them following and said to them, “What are you seeking?” And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?” 39 He said to them, “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. 40 One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ). 42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John. You shall be called Cephas” (which means Peter). 43 The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow me.” 44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him of whom Moses in the Law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” 46 Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” 47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!” 48 Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” 49 Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” 50 Jesus answered him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” 51 And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
John 1:35

Jesus Begins His Ministry

Jesus never intended to do all the work himself
He knew that in order for the sacrifice He was going to make to become a message heard around the world, He was going to need to involve others
He Picked 12, Singled out 3
Peter, James, John were always the disciples that got a little extra attention
The Bible refers to these three as “pillars of the faith” in
Beyond the 12 were 72 (), and then 120 (), and then 3000 ()!
This number continues to grow this day! Every single day, more and more people are entering into Faith in Jesus Christ!!

Called to Call…Others // Becoming Fishers of Men

Matthew 4:18–19 ESV
18 While walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon (who is called Peter) and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. 19 And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”
From the beginning, Jesus intended that these guys were not only going to listen and learn from Him, but they were going to DO, and DO TOGETHER!

Responses — Yes, Ask Questions, No

Yes, Ask Questions, No
Yes - some didn’t think twice, they stopped what they were doing and followed Jesus
Matthew 4:20 ESV
20 Immediately they left their nets and followed him.
Asked Questions - some asked questions
Nathanael
John 1:45–51 ESV
John 1:
Notice that Jesus doesn’t write him off for asking questions - He has patience with Him and still invites Nathanael to follow Him.
Nicodemus
John 3:1–4 ESV
1 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” 3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
John 3:1-4
The people that we walk through this life with should be allowed to ask questions
How would you feel if you never got to ask questions?
It’s OKAY not to have all the answers - it provides us an opportunity to grow and learn together!
It’s OKAY not to have all the answers - it provides us an opportunity to grow and learn together!
“Uncertainty exposes a lack of knowledge. Pretending exposes a lack of character.”
— Andy Stanley, Next Generation Leader
DEFINE: Character - attributes or features that make up and distinguish an individual.
Questions are better than “No”
The fact that Nicodemus asks questions, shows that he is genuinely interested in what Jesus is saying
Don’t let a question stop you from continuing to share the gospel
APPLE: “I don’t know, let’s go find out together.”
No
Rich Young Ruler
Luke 18:
Luke 18:19–23 ESV
19 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. 20 You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.’ ” 21 And he said, “All these I have kept from my youth.” 22 When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” 23 But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich.
Notice: he asked questions, but ultimately wanted to go his own ways

It’s Not About You

Not everyone that you talk to about Jesus is going to believe
Not every person you disciple is going to stay the course
CELEBRATE THOSE THAT STAY!

Next Steps

Find 1-2 people that can disciple you
Find 1-2 people you can disciple (this may be the same as #1)
Check-in, Challenge, Celebrate
Check-in with them and on them (how’s your spiritual health?)
Challenge them to grow even more (questions)
Celebrate the victories along the way (party time)
