Dinner invitations this week?
God’s desire is that we use Him Name to shine as a light
but we throw His Name around to fight
towards non believers
we lay out a list of rules and expectations for them to meet in the Name of Christianity
God hates people who RATHER THAN SAYING TRUTH
God hates sin but loves sinners
we are no better than anyone else
sinners saved by grace
we do not have authority to treat non-believers in a disrespectful or demeaning way
WE MUST BE A LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS
how do sinners get free from sin?
through supernatural power of Jesus
not through their own efforts
so to the non-believers we MUST stop teaching that by our own effort we can stop sinning!
INSTEAD:
teach them Romans Road:
move through understanding as a process or in steps
if someone does not recognize that they are sinful or that their sinfulness will lead to eternal death than the thought of a Savior seems foolish!
SO WHEN WE INTERACT WITH NON-BELIEVERS WE MUST USE JESUS TO BE A LIGHT NOT TO START A FIGHT!
What about with other believers?
we still aren’t to use Jesus to fight over
ever hear Christians talk about someone rather than to them?
publically point fingers and shame on other believers?
confront someone with a hateful attitude to tell them the loving plan of Jesus for their lives?
How do we settle disagreements or conflict among believers?
5 Steps
Put away ALL bitterness and anger
Ephesians
this is difficult until we grasp what Jesus did for us
I deserve God’s wrath and so do you
but we got grace
Put away ALL bitterness and anger
Ask yourself, “is this something that I should overlook?”
sometimes you should pull and Elsa and just “LET IT GO”
Forgive them and drop it
sometimes we should just cover it with love
When do we NOT simply overlook an offense?
If it only affects my feelings than probably not one to confront but...
Are they putting their soul in danger by the way they are maliciously treating others?
Is it crucial that they be held accountable for their actions?
Are they damaging the unity of the church?
Are they compromising the reputation of the church?
MUCH THOUGHT AND PRAYER SHOULD GO INTO THIS STEP BEFORE YOU MOVE ON...
Put away ALL bitterness and anger
Ask yourself, “is this something that I should overlook?”
Talk with them one-on-one
the next 3 steps come directly from Jesus’ teachings
GO TO HIM/HER WITH THE GOAL OF RECONCILLIATION
Between you and Him alone means
don’t gossip about it
don’t try to get people on your side
just talk to the person
So when God tells us to do this we often say
“Yeah, I know that I’m supposed to do that but...”
THERE CANNOT BE ANY BUTS WHEN WE DEAL WITH CONFLICT IN THE CHURCH
Put away ALL bitterness and anger
Ask yourself, “is this something that I should overlook?”
Talk with them one-on-one
Bring an unbiased and spiritually mature third-party
Matthew 18:16
The goal here is to establish truth beyond my word against yours
this is not ganging up on but the goal is still reconciliation
hopefully the offender will listen and repent
Put away ALL bitterness and anger
Ask yourself, “is this something that I should overlook?”
Talk with them one-on-one
Bring an unbiased and spiritually mature third-party
Bring it to the church
the hope and goal here is still to bring reconcilliation
if the person still refuses to listen and the issue is one that ...
is putting souls in danger
compromising unity in church
IF SOMEONE REFUSES TO REPENT OF DOING HARM TO OTHERS IN THE CHURCH, THEN FOR THE SAKE OF THE ENTIRE CHURCH- AND FOR THE SAKE OF THAT INDIVIDUAL- THEY MUST BE TREATED AS AN OUTSIDER.
2 Thesalonians 3:14-15
take care of these matters when they are small.
Take care of them before they get out of hand.
Take care of them first in your own heart and then – if necessary – with the other person.
And be a forgiver!
We spend too much time throwing the Name of Jesus around in an unglody way.
Let us be a light rather than stir up a fight!
