Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

In our conversation we noted that it is not just what Jesus saves us from:

of a process or system) characterized by constant change or activity.

▶ (of a person) full of energy and new ideas

A kingdom refers to the SOVEREIGN RULE of someone — someone possessing ultimate power
Through the years there have been many earthly kingdoms some great, some small…
Each possessing a power over its citizens...
When we become saved --- we often think of being saved from HELL, from SIN, from DARKNESS and BONDAGE...
But in reality, we are not just being saved FROM SOMETHING, but TOO SOMETHING!
We are being BROUGHT INTO THE KINGDOM OF GOD!!!
Jesus spoke extensively about His kingdom - in fact the NEW TESTAMENT refers to the WORD KINGDOM over 160 times and a majority of them by Christ in the Gospels.
Matthew in particular demonstrates Jesus constant referral in teaching, parables, and examples to the many references to the KINGDOM of God or HEAVEN --- and it is Matthew that depicts Jesus as a KING.
In reality, Jesus came to bring the KINGDOM OF GOD to man:
- First, into our hearts
- Second, physically to all believe for eternity
Recognize that before we were saved, we were controlled by the kingdom of darkness in this world
Ephesians 2:1–3 NLT
Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.
But when we trusted in Jesus for salvation and yielded our hearts and lives to him, we joined those of faith in becoming STRANGERS/ ALIENS in this land realizing that our real home was now that of heaven and the KINGDOM OF GOD.
Hebrews 11:13 NLT
All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth.
I think many contemporary Christians have failed to realize that we are no longer citizens of this earth, but by accepting Christ we are now in HIS KINGDOM, and we fail to realize all that means!

1. Recognize Kingdom Authority in Our Lives

Every Kingdom has a King!!!
All Hail King Jesus!!!!
He died for the right to be our King!!! King of our hearts, King of our lives, King of our choices!
There is no Kingdom without a Sovereign AUTHORITY, and ours is CHRIST!
Which means we need to understand His will and desires for those in His Kingdom.
The Gospels are filled with Jesus teachings on how to live our lives, make decisions and choices, and live out our faith...
They are not just suggestions, they are expectations of the KING...
Every time Jesus refers to how it is in the Kingdom - He is giving us instruction!
Matthew 5:3 NLT
3 “God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
Matthew 5:10 NLT
10 God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.
Matthew 6:9–11 NLT
9 Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. 10 May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today the food we need,
Matthew 6:9–10 NLT
9 Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. 10 May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
HELL
Matthew 7:21 NLT
21 “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter.
Which is historically the focus we often take...
Matthew 18:1 NLT
1 About that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?”
Matthew 18:4 NLT
4 So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.
But what is Jesus saving us too????
Every parable in Matthew is likened to the Kingdom of Heaven.... dealing with our faith, our receiving instruction...
Undeniable is the fact that those who reject the Salvation plan of Christ will be punished with hell fire, torment, etc. --- AND Jesus talks much about this and often concludes His parables with this....
But
The Sermon on the Mount is an example of values in the Kingdom of God...
If you look at the Book of Matthew - in paticular
Not just not murdering, but controlling anger
We are being saved TOO something!
Not just not committing adultery, but not lusting after another
The Kingdom of Heaven!
Not just doing what the law requires, but going the extra mile
Jesus is always teaching a parable, Sermon on the Mount, reference to those who are great, etc in reference to ‘The Kingdom of Heaven’ --- even beginning the PRAYER HE taught us to start with - THY KINGDOM COME...
These are principles to the Kingdom...
In fact the Word Kingdom occurs 163 times in 154 verses of the Bible in the New Testament - a majority of them in the Gospels...
If Christ is our authority,
Should we not surrender OUR LIVES to HIS DESIRES FOR US???
The reality that THE KINGDOM OF GOD is a new reality Jesus wanted to bring people INTO!!!!
His coming to earth is to bring the Kingdom of God to us!!!
Our instruction by Christ is to SEEK FIRST HIS KINGDOM --- in other words - how should we behave, respond, choose the things we do, we should seek out what the Kingdom of God desires us to do!!!
Matthew 6:33 NLT
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
We hear this, and know this, but often ignore this need to surrender ourselves to the authority of Christ!
Seek first the Kingdom of God…or as it is also referred to as the Kingdom of HEAVEN
IF we would surrender to HIS AUTHORITY — we would find ourselves becoming more greatly prepared for the day His Kingdom goes from Spiritual to PHYSICAL
Spanish from Barcelona Spain is almost like talking with a lisp...
The Book of Matthew depicts Jesus in HIS KINGLY role, so showing his consistent reference to the Kingdom is part of that...
Why, because at one time a prince and future kings was said to have lisped!

2. Receive Kingdom Benefits in Our Lives

What is a Kingdom and what is the Kingdom of God?
In
Let me just highlight a couple of benefits...

Webster’s Definition of kingdom

ABUNDANT LIFE...
1 : a politically organized community or major territorial unit having a monarchical form of government headed by a king or queen
John 10:10 NLT
10 The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.
Dictionary of Jesus and the Gospels Kingdom of God/Kingdom of Heaven

KINGDOM OF GOD/KINGDOM OF HEAVEN

The term “kingdom of God” or “kingdom of Heaven” signifies God’s (see God) sovereign, dynamic and eschatological (see Eschatology) rule.

Jesus wants our lives to be better!
That does not mean we wont experience the effects of this world, but an abundant life has perks.
God’s SOVEREIGN --- Total Authority
Dynamic - of a process or system) characterized by constant change or activity.
There is COMFORT for when we grieve
▶ (of a person) full of energy and new ideas
Matthew 5:4 NLT
4 God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
PEACE for when we are distressed
John 14:27 NLT
27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
john
PROVISION for when we are in need
Philippians 4:19 NLT
19 And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
FORGIVENESS for when we have failed
Soanes, C., & Stevenson, A. (Eds.). (2004). Concise Oxford English dictionary (11th ed.). Oxford: Oxford University Press.
2 Timothy 2:13 NLT
13 If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny who he is.
2 timothy
1 John 1:9 NLT
9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
WISDOM for when we don’t know what to do
James 1:5 NLT
5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.
Eschatological - refers to last days (end times)
STRENGTH to endure
The reality is that the Kingdom of God is here now in the hearts of men producing change and activity in this world
Philippians 4:13 NLT
13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
AND
HOPE for that which is ahead
Romans 15.
Romans 15:13 NLT
13 I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
The Kingdom of God will be brought to full consumation at the Return of Christ to reign in a literal Physical Kingdom on this earth and in heaven for eternity
IN ADDITION TO ABUNDANT LIFE IS
When we think of Kingdom, we think of authority, rule, law, boundaries, expectations of citizens and rights of citizens subject to the authority of a sovereign (or leader who possesses supreme and ultimate power)
ETERNAL LIFE...
We know that God is Sovereign and HIS Kingdom carries all authority.
Living forever is ONLY PROMISED TO THOSE WHO ARE PART OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD… those who have surrendered their lives to the KINGSHIP OF JESUS!!!
Do we realize that once we yield our hearts to Christ we are yielding ourselves to the SOVEREIGNTY of GOD —
This principle of everyone goes to heaven just is not so...
No longer living for our will, but yielded to HIS will!
You need your name written in His BOOK - a book of citizenship that comes when we surrender to HIS KINGSHIP
This world is actually plagued the Kingdom of DARKNESS and sin --- Satan is the prince and power of the air
Revelation 13:8 NLT
8 And all the people who belong to this world worshiped the beast. They are the ones whose names were not written in the Book of Life that belongs to the Lamb who was slaughtered before the world was made.
Revelation 21:27 NLT
27 Nothing evil will be allowed to enter, nor anyone who practices shameful idolatry and dishonesty—but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
Luke 10:17–20 NLT
17 When the seventy-two disciples returned, they joyfully reported to him, “Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name!” 18 “Yes,” he told them, “I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning! 19 Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you. 20 But don’t rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven.”
Before Christ we lived under the authority of darkness in this world - if you have not received Christ and yielded your life to Him, you are still dominated by this spiritual kingdom whether you realize it or not....
WHOA --- there is a registry in Heaven
BUT - when we yield our lives to Jesus, we are SAVED to a NEW KINGDOM - no longer bound by the prince of darkness - but now surrendered to THE KING OF KINGS in the KINGDOM OF GOD
How do we get our names there ---
By surrendering our hearts to Christ and making Him the King of our lives....
His Kingdom is spiritual in these days, but will become physical and literal for all eternity...
He washes our sins away and empowers us to live for Him ---
For the time being - when we are brought into the Kingdom of God through salvation (faith in Christ - acceptance of His sacrifice for our sin, and surrender to His LORDSHIP and SOVEREIGNTY) we are being prepared for the time where we will reign with Him in the Kingdom!
That gives us ETERNAL LIFE!
We will even reign with Him during his 1000 year reign on earth before He brings in the new Kingdom forever
Hebrews 11:13–16 NLT
All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth. Obviously people who say such things are looking forward to a country they can call their own. If they had longed for the country they came from, they could have gone back. But they were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.
Revelation 20:6 NLT
6 Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. For them the second death holds no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him a thousand years.
This passage refers to the men and women of faith who recognized they were just passing through this earth awaiting a better land - being strangers here and awaiting the Kingdom to come!
Eternal Life is only possible because our lives have been made RIGHTEOUS!
Soooo,
It is impossible for man to live a righteous life until Christ has imparted His righteousness to us!
Recognizing that as Christians we are now citizens of a heavenly Kingdom that is not of this world (even Jesus said this about His Kingdom)...
Romans 3:10 NLT
10 As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous— not even one.
Let us look at what it means to be part of that Kingdom!
Romans 3:25–26 NLT
25 For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, 26 for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he makes sinners right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.
Romans 5:19–21 NLT
19 Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous. 20 God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant. 21 So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 10:10 NLT
10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.
We as CITIZENS OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD are given:
Abundant Life
Eternal Life
Righteous Lives

3. Ready Yourself for Opposition to the Kingdom - Knowing We Win in the End

Once you are in the Kingdom - you are an enemy of the Kingdom of Darkness ---
Satan does not have to pursue who he already has in bondage - but when Jesus sets you free — the devil wants you beaten down and to lose our faith!
Matthew 11:12 NLT
12 And from the time John the Baptist began preaching until now, the Kingdom of Heaven has been forcefully advancing, and violent people are attacking it.
John 13:16–17 NLT
16 I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message. 17 Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them.
John 15:20 NLT
20 Do you remember what I told you? ‘A slave is not greater than the master.’ Since they persecuted me, naturally they will persecute you. And if they had listened to me, they would listen to you.
Though God will bless us for obedience, those opposed to the KINGDOM OF GOD will persecute you for following CHRIST!
The world is mad at Christians because they are mad that we wont follow their standards.
For a period of time Christians had an influence that caused even the lost to follow our judgments and rules in law - the influence of God’s Word on society --
But society is rejecting the Bible, God’s laws, and the influence of righteousness on earth - and they are now making wrong right and right wrong...
Those who oppose them are labeled as bigots, narrow minded, outdated, fascists, etc
It is PERSECTION - but they Persecuted Christ and they will persecute us too!
Just realize that in the end - WE WIN!!!
Jesus is returning one day triumphantly and conquering the Kingdoms of the world.
In Daniel there is a story about a dream Nebuchadnezzar had of a great statue...
In this dream the various kingdoms that have been the greatest on earth are depicted… Babylonian, Medes and Persians, Greek, Roman, the offshoot governments of Roman influence - Democracy and Republics...
In the end the ROCK - Jesus comes and crushes the statue and establishes His Kingdom!!!!
Romans 16:20 NLT
20 The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. May the grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.
Romans 14:11 NLT
11 For the Scriptures say, “ ‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bend to me, and every tongue will declare allegiance praise to God.’ ”
Philippians 2:10–11 NLT
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Revelation 11:15 NLT
15 Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices shouting in heaven: “The world has now become the Kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign forever and ever.”

Conclusion

So, realize...
You were not just saved from SIN --- BUT
You were saved INTO THE KINGDOM OF GOD!!!
As citizens of this Kingdom we are called to recognize and obey the authority of Christ...
We are also allowed to experience the benefits this Kingdom gives to us...
Abundant Life
Eternal Life
Righteousness in life
We should ready ourselves for opposition to this Kingdom in our lives, but remember - WE WIN IN THE END!
