Foundation Text:
Romans 8:35–37 NKJV
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
Tribulation - tough times
distress - worry about what will happen
persecution - people picking on you
famine - tough financial times
nakedness - exposure, barrenness
peril - dangers (surgery, sickness)
sword - symbolic of death -
We don’t just “come through” these things
We are MORE than conquerors - Greek comes from a word group that means:
To win overwhelmingly, to completely vanquish the foe, so that everyone around can see that it has happened
People SEE the difference in your life
peace
stability
How does this happen? Our text tells us that:
We are more than conquerors through him who loved us
This overwhelming victory comes THROUGH Jesus Christ - and not in any other way
THROUGH him -
What does “through Him” mean? Best and shortest definition is:
“Through Him” = because of Him
because of his love
because of his power
because of his promises to us
because of His word IN us
GET THIS - because of your relationship with/to Him
What happens BECAUSE OF Him depends on your relationship with Him
Let me show you a key passage:
Luke 6:46–49 The Message
“Why are you so polite with me, always saying ‘Yes, sir,’ and ‘That’s right, sir,’ but never doing a thing I tell you? These words I speak to you are not mere additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundation words, words to build a life on. “If you work the words into your life, you are like a smart carpenter who dug deep and laid the foundation of his house on bedrock. When the river burst its banks and crashed against the house, nothing could shake it; it was built to last. But if you just use my words in Bible studies and don’t work them into your life, you are like a dumb carpenter who built a house but skipped the foundation. When the swollen river came crashing in, it collapsed like a house of cards. It was a total loss.”
Your relationship with Him depends on the service you give Him.
Some give a lot of “lip service” but no “life service”
Its those who give the “life service” who become more than conquerors through him
THROUGH HIM
IMMERSED IN HIM AND HIS WAYS
MORE THAN A CONQUEROR!! I overwhelmingly win!!
But it is THROUGH HIM that this happens
Today is a special day, so I want to spend a little time talking about:

Overwhelming Your Enemies

WHY should I be baptized?
What does baptism do?
John 3:5 HCSB
Jesus answered, “I assure you: Unless someone is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
Baptism in water opens the door to God’s kingdom.
Kingdom of God - where HE rules and reigns, where HE takes care of everything, where HE takes care of his children, where HE fights the battles
1 Corinthians 10:1–2 AMP
FOR I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, that our forefathers were all under and protected by the cloud [in which God’s Presence went before them], and every one of them passed safely through the [Red] Sea, And each one of them [allowed himself also] to be baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea [they were thus brought under obligation to the Law, to Moses, and to the covenant, consecrated and set apart to the service of God];
Baptism in water is a commitment to God that when I pass through the door into His kingdom, I’m leaving my past behind.
Cloud - God
Sea - Water
They went in slaves and came out free.
They went in running from a past that was hot on their heels and came out free of that past - all by the power of God.
DON’T MISS:  they were baptized in the cloud AND in the sea.  AND they were baptized INTO Moses - as we are baptized into Christ.  The baptism worked to unite them with Moses - the one that God had chosen to take them into the promised land.  We are baptized into Christ - the one chosen by God to take US into the promised land.  Once the Red Sea closed, there was no going back - no chance to return to the old life.
Colossians 2:11–12 NLT
When you came to Christ, you were “circumcised,” but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision—the cutting away of your sinful nature. For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.
Baptism in water is your promise that you trust God and His power to deliver you.
1 Peter 3:21 The Message
The waters of baptism do that for you, not by washing away dirt from your skin but by presenting you through Jesus’ resurrection before God with a clear conscience.
Baptism prepares me for life service with Him
Its like cleaning and tuning up your car to get it ready for a trip with special guests.
My conscience is clear - I’ve done what you’ve told me to do
I’ve left my past behind
I believe in your resurrection power
I’m ready to go to work with you
Its through life service with Christ that we become more than conquerors through Him
