Wow Statement
When the people saw that Moses was so long in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, “Come, make us gods who will go before us.
As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.”
2 Aaron answered them, “Take off the gold earrings that your wives, your sons and your daughters are wearing, and bring them to me.” 3 So all the people took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron. 4 He took what they handed him and made it into an idol cast in the shape of a calf, fashioning it with a tool.
Then they said, “These are your gods, y Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.”
5 When Aaron saw this, he built an altar in front of the calf and announced, “Tomorrow there will be a festival to the LORD.” 6 So the next day the people rose early and sacrificed burnt offerings and presented fellowship offerings.
Afterward they sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.
At this point…God’s had enough with the people.... notice what he says in the next chapter....
“Then the LORD said to Moses, “Leave this place, you and the people you brought up out of Egypt, and go up to the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’ 2 I will send an angel before you and drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites.
3 Go up to the land flowing with milk and honey.
But I will not go with you, because you are a stiff-necked people and I might destroy you on the way.”

In the wake of the golden calf episode, Yahweh decides that He cannot accompany the people to the promised land because it is too dangerous for them—if they anger Him again He may wipe them out.
Instead, He will send only the angel that He promised in 23:20.
The people mourn upon hearing the news

So immediately Moses goes into intercession for the people…he’s pleading the case/prayer for the people he’s leading.
and i want you to notice what Moses says to God....
.
“IF YOUR PRESENCE DOES NOT GO WITH US, DO NOT SEND US FROM HERE.”
DON’T SEND US FROM WHERE??? Mt Sinai.... the desert.... don’t send us to where.... land flowing with milk and honey.... the promise land...
So Moses here is saying.... Lord.... your presence is so much more important than our comfort.... Lord your blessing are great… but your presence is of utmost importance.
I’m willing… to sit here in the desert with your presence… than to go up to the land flowing with milk and honey without your presence...
I choose presence over comfort.... i choose presence over blessing.
Pastor Dustin.... that’s Old Testament....
Mark 10:17
What did the rich young ruler learn by coming into contact with God???
notice he asked what “good” thing can i do??? His focus was on what “good” thing he could do to get into heaven.
What good thing he could do to earn salvation.....
Jesus decided to play the game.... he said “you know the commandments… shall not murder, shall not commit adultery, shall not steal, shall not give false testimony, shall not defraud, honor you father and mother.....
makes statement… “dont call me good”
the man responded… ive kept all of them....
but notice jesus only gave 6....why/????
broken into two parts.....first 6 is about your relationship to others....last four are about your relationship to God...
jesus knew if he said.... “have no other Gods before me” that the young man would not say “ive kept them all”
so notice what jesus said....”ok you’ve kept all these”.... so you lack one thing… go and sell everything.....
now....was jesus saying this man had to do this to go to heaven?
NO.... he says pick up your cross and “follow me”....that how you make it....but what was keeping this young man from picking up his cross and following Jesus?????
His wealth and riches......his blessings.... LISTEN…HIS COMFORT.....
notice Jesus said if you sell these things you will have treasure in heaven..... not go to heaven..... BLESSING AND COMFORT WAS KEEPING THIS YOUNG MAN FROM EVERYTHING GOD HAD FOR HIM.
Jesus wants you to follow him with ALL YOUR HEART…love the lord with all your heart, mind, strength.
Jesus recognizes immediately what it was in this mans life that kept him from going all in with Jesus.... he needed like MOSES to say....Lord i’ll choose your presence over the blessing…over the comfort...
God wants you to be totally commited.
Why???? because Jesus knew that the best life you can live is the totally committed life....
look back at verse 21 with me again....what does it say??? Jesus loved him....he wanted what was best for him.
he wasn’t saying it out of anger or power....out of love....
Think with me of the story of Lot....
Lot looked around and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan toward Zoar was well watered, like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt.
(This was before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.)
11 So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and set out toward the east.
The two men parted company: 12 Abram lived in the land of Canaan, while Lot lived among the cities of the plain and pitched his tents near Sodom.
knew the wickedness....but didnt care because why??? looked good.... chose blessing over presence.... chose comfort over presence....
Lost his family…shambles....
pitched his tent near Sodom...
where are we pitching our tents???? staggering on the line of the world or are we all in???
put our spiritual lives at risk… lives of your family....
How many of you are hungry for a revival at SFAG????
We must first seek a personal revival.....and listen… please..... God will never shake your foundation if your ultimate goal in life is comfort.....
let us go all in!!
