matthew 26:69-
Peter (69-75)
1st Denial (69-70)
Matthew 26:69-70
2nd Denial (71-72)
But Peter’s second denial had given him away.
From his speech, it was clear that he was a Galilaean.
The Galilaeans spoke with a burr; so ugly was their accent that no Galilaean was allowed to pronounce the benediction at a synagogue service.
3rd Denial (73-74)
But before we condemn him, we must remember very clearly that few of us would ever have had the courage to be in that courtyard at all.
And there is one last thing to be said—it was love which gave Peter that courage; it was love which riveted him there in spite of the fact that he had been recognized three times; it was love which made him remember the words of Jesus; it was love which sent him out into the night to weep—and it is love which covers a multitude of sins.
The lasting impression of this whole story is not of Peter’s cowardice, but of Peter’s love.

Judas (1-10)
Bound—Jesus was bound by love for us and for His Father.
Like Samson he could have broken his bonds and escaped if the Father wanted Him to do it.
We were bound by our sin, but through the King’s sacrifice, we have been set free from the sin that leads to death.
1 mile from Caiaphas’ house to Pilate’s home.
Jesus came to save both Jews and gentiles and so He was judged by both Jews and gentiles.
Judas Regrets (3)
Repent=Peter-feeling sorry over actions, believed, pardoned.
Judas feeling sorry over actions, despaired, ruined.
See here how Judas repented: not like Peter, who repented, believed, and was pardoned: no, he repented, despaired, and was ruined.
Now observe here,
Maybe Judas expected that this would force Jesus’ hand to revolt, stand up for Himself like a cornered animal and be the savior of Israel that Judas had hoped Jesus would be.
Maybe Judas was just so disappointed that Jesus wasn’t all that wanted him to be that he thought, I might as well at least get some money out it all.
But, then the next morning felt pity for this poor innocent man who’s only in fault was that He though He was the Messiah.
Judas’ greater sin was that he did not trust the mercy of God.
He throws himself into the fire, to avoid the flame; but miserable is the case when a man must go to hell for ease.
And self-murder, though prescribed by some of the heathen moralists, is certainly a remedy worse than the disease, how bad soever the disease may be.
Let us watch against the beginnings of melancholy, and pray, Lord, lead us not into temptation.
Judas Returns (3-5)
Matthew 27:
He throws himself into the fire, to avoid the flame; but miserable is the case when a man must go to hell for ease.
He tried to punish himself thinking that would bring him relief.
regret is a good thing because it is a warning sing to us.
Let us watch out for extended sadness, melancholy, and ask the Lord to lead us not into temptation.
Judas Remembered (6-10)
Matthew 27:
True repentance does not come at just looking at our sin.
Sin does lead us to repentance.
Repentance comes from looking at the loving Savior which we have offended.
2 cor
True relief comes only from Christ.
Forgiveness comes only from the Savior.
Hope comes only from the King.
Have you found relief, forgiveness and hope in Jesus.
