There is much more to David…read about him in
Many of the Psalms were written by David including the one we will read today - 40
We’ll read the entire Psalm, but I want to start in verse 11.
Read
Troubles and sin are overwhelming to David.
A prayer…a plead to God for help.
Recognition of hie state of being - poor and needy vs 17
Recognition of who alone could help him vs 17
Read Psalm 40:1-3
Remembers a previous time he was in a slimy pit, in mud and mire and he waited patiently.
What is your pit, mud and mire? could be one of 4 things
Sin
Defeat
Bad habits
Circumstance
This is before his plea in 11-17…must be a previous struggle that the Lord took care of him, yet he struggles again.
God did 6 things:
Turned to him/saw him
Heard his cry
lifted him out
set feet on a rock
Gave firm place to stand
Gave him a new song of praise
Result: many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in Him!
Read
Testimony of what has been done and who the Lord is…what His character is.
What can we take from this cry for help in David’s life?
There are a few action words scattered throughout this Psalm that are great nuggets of advice for when (not if) we go through a pit...
Wait patiently (vs 1)
Trust in the Lord, not in man (vs 4)
Speak and tell of what God has done, Proclaim Him and do not hide His love and faithfulness (vs 5, 9, 10)
Do His will and put His lay within your heart(vs 8)
Seek Him and Rejoice/be glad in Him (vs 16)
Recognize your need for Him (vs 17)
