This is the only oone of the ten comandments that did not carry over after old testement law, however it can still be applied to our lives today

Exodus 20:8–10 ESV
8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates.

A. Remember the Sabeth day
Work 402+208
The idea here of remember is to keep in mind, and to profess the idea being do not forget.
sabbath litterlly means to rest or cease
B. keep it Holy
It is of significance that the word “to” not and is used some people mistakenly say “remember the sabbeth day and keep it holy. However the emphisis here must be to. “You keep the sabeth day holy by rembering it”

We are to work, a christian is not to be lazy. However, when this comandment was written work was an every day all day thing. and this comanment laid out the need for rest. even God himself rested on the 7th day of creation. as we will see in ex 20:11
Proverbs 21:11 CSB
11 When a mocker is punished, the inexperienced become wiser; when one teaches a wise man, he acquires knowledge.
B. rest on the seventh day
-After working rest is required in in the book of Deuteronomy this comand is repeated
Deuteronomy 5:12 ESV
12 “ ‘Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you.
Deuteronomy 5:12–15 ESV
12 “ ‘Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you. 13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter or your male servant or your female servant, or your ox or your donkey or any of your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates, that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you. 15 You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.
Deuteronomy 5:13 ESV
13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
Deuteronomy 5:14 ESV
14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter or your male servant or your female servant, or your ox or your donkey or any of your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates, that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you.
zAnother practical aspect is when we take time off it gives us time with our family and friends and strengthens personal bounds. the single leading cause of divorse under marriage is working too much your families do not need things they need you
Deuteronomy 5:15 ESV
15 You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.
a. you shall not do any work
b. your son shall not do any work
c. your daughter shall not do any work
d. your male servent shall not do any work
-This was a significant claim in scripture making the comand that even a slave had fundemntle human rights to rest one day a week. The slave owner in socioty was under no obligaton to allow his slaves to rest, and certenly not to rest a whole day every week, but this comand cmands just that.
e. your female servent shall not do any work
d. your livstalk shall not work
-even animals needed rest
e. any visitor within your gates shall not work

The reason for the day of sabeth was to remember Isrel’s release from Egypt, we are not jews so we do not need to remember such however we still should rest.
In this comand God declard to Isrel that He is the Lord of time he pronounced dominion not just over the one sabeth day but over the other six as well. He told Isrel to work for six days and then to set aside the seventh for rest and worship This pattern of six days of labor and one day of rest was set forth by God in his work of creation and he makes that connection explicit in verse 11
Exodus 20:11 ESV
11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

E
in this comandment God declared his sovrignty over the entire life of Isrel. The overall premis of this comand is that God is Lord of all of Life and that he has dominion over time. The details of this comadment are no longer in place but the core of it absolutly is we are all called to worship and to rest and we are reminded that our work through the rest of the week matter in the eyes of God
As with much of Old Testemnt law the forth comandment finds its fufilment and meaning and meaning in the personal work of Jesus Christ.
